I've been playing Dust for...idk 9 months or so. During this time, I've used 1 (one) kind of suit: the Gallente Assault suit. As long as I've been playing, I've used the Assault Rifle at least 90% of the time. Zero (0) SP into vehicles.
Now, as you can imagine, I've had good and bad experiences using that fit for so long. Especially through each FOTM.
I went through the deathstorm that is being new in Dust. I went through the OP Flaylock days. I went through watching Slayer Logi's beat me at my own role. Been through the "balanced" weapons like the ScR having the same DPS as me and more range. I'm currently fighting through the 3 month tankspam that is 1.7....and I've been proto-stomped so many times I've lost count.
And through it all, I've never changed fits. And I could count the number of times I've used proto in a pub match on my hands. No, I've used STD gear most of the time. If it's a tough match I'll use ADV. Never used the FOTM. I have a number of reasons for this, can't mention them all but:
One, because I want Dust to succeed, and stomping new players through the ground makes them leave and most don't come back. That's a problem for a game like Dust, believe it or not. Two, because using FOTM doesn't make you a good player. You're just using 'Easy Mode'. I want to win without using easy mode. And I've done it several times. However I have to fight hard to beat them, and I'm often left with defeat. I've kept myself going by telling myself CCP would eventually fix the problems and I would be able to say I never used Proto or FOTM.
But CCP hasn't fixed it. They continue to change things in a way that makes one thing better than another. After reading the recent dev blog on 1.8, I have come to a decision. I will no longer use my Gallente Assault suit or any light weapon, whether we get a respec or not.
I will be going FOTM Gallente Heavy. I'll be going FOTM in general. I'm going to find whatever method is OP and spam the f*** out of it. LAV Heavy? I'll spam it. Why? Because trying to preserve this game's player base isn't working, and I'm tired of losing. So I'm going to join the ranks of the FOTM and Proto users trying to destroy it. I also say if there's a way around the PC locking 'fix' coming next week, then keep them all locked and farm ISK. Maybe when CCP see's their game crumbling they'll actually DO something.
So, in closing, it's not our fault that CCP (CCP Shanghai specifically) doesn't know how to balance this game. We shouldn't punish ourselves for their mistakes.
Come Uprising 1.8, if you're not a Heavy and you're within 20 meters of me....god help you.
Laughed so hard, TY. I understand your frustration and on the other hand I do not. I player multiple roles but I use heavy mainly as of last 4 months. I have been using the LAV heavy tactic for a long time. I cant run long or far I have to have some means to get across large areas of open land. When I am given the option of straight up fighting I will go toe to toe instead of hit and run with an LAV. I agree the player base is daunting but we must preserver we must keep playing and hope a community comes from these forums and that does not speak of nerfs or FOTM but how can we make the game better today. We keep punching each other in the eye and blaming each other for the problems when they do not lie in our hands but in the Devs. They write the code, it is up to you as a player to push those boundaries, we ask for it to be fixed not OP or UP or any other alphabet BS you want to add. It is our job to push the limits and if something is wrong we calmly tell the DEVS not ask for a nerf or a shot of go F****** nuts mode. After we voiced our thoughts, others would maturely answer the question and off of those replies the Devs can judge what needs to be fixed and what doesn't, but instead here were are like a bunch of savages tearing one apart due to a few different ideas.
A heavy before 1.8
