Honestly I don't think that scouts are much of their namesake many 'scouts' don't even carry scanners, myself included and I have proto, mostly due to logis being better for the role period(gallogi even getting a bonus soon), covert ops or hell even rapid assault would describe our role on the battlefield more accurately.
Thoughts?

What i know from my armytime, they should be recon. The problem with their role is CCP dont gave them scan bonus for example. Fast they are enough. Just put them on special role.

I agree just the way we had slayer logis.
Role bonus should be available to promote diversity.
Basic suits should be customizable but not specialized suits like Sentinels, Logistics
Basic heavy for example might be allowed to use Light weapons if they wanted but not Sentinels and they should be rewarded for specialization.
Being up to have more armor on any level of Medium suit than a heavy is just plain wrong

Or if a Dropsuit really should be called a dropsuit. "They are really just a Combat Exoskeleton"
I don't think such thought need be put into the names of the thing.

I think the Caldari scout could be very scout like, mostly due to it's bonuses to passive scan range/precision.
Perhaps the Gallente scout should get the bonus to active scanners instead of the Gal logi plus it's bonus to profile damp. Although then what would the Gal logi get a bonus to, as they have no other racial equipment. |

Agree here, we need more role focused points like achievment.
Assault - Number of Kills, every five or more bonus.
Logistic - Number of Support actions bonus.
Scout - Number of Recon action bonus (there is awesome place for scaner).
Commando - Number of Dual wield suppresions bonus (just idea here about forced atack to point taken by enemy).
Sentinel - Number of Area denial bonus (just idea here about cover point atacked by enemy).
Support - Tactician/Support
Deteis - Orator

While I find myself doing so often (in a coordinated team/squad) more likely than not I'm setting traps or flanking a target for stabby fun times.

Scout is good.
They're keen for infiltration, intelligence-gathering, counter-intelligence, as well as assassination and rapid response.
It's not CCP's fault that-
Well it kinda is.
Right now, most scouts are used for minor-infiltrating, rapid response, and assassination. In the competitive modes, people only use scouts for assassination and laying down uplinks.
In the future, hopefully we'll have actual intelligence and counter-intelligence plays going on. It'll rely on the playerbase making use of it though but of course you can encourage it the same way they encouraged scanning.
One day, I want to see dynamic team battles go down with scouts having an actual importance.

Some will use the suit to scan, stalk, and observe enemies, relay the info, and perhaps kill or cause confusion. For them, the name "scout" is fitting. Others use the suit as a platform for assassination, and the name is not fitting. Others will use the scout suit with remote explosives in such a way that the suit would be more appropriately named "vindictive skinny people."
The same goes for other suits. Sometimes the name fits what people use the suit for, sometimes it doesn't. That is the price you pay when you give players highly customizable fitting capabilities. |

No need to split hairs over semantics. Scout is a general archtype known for being fast, weak, about intel, etc etc. Scanning, deploying uplinks behind enemy lines, hacking ****, I do this already. Scout is fine.

Doesn't really matter. Also, if we ever get 2 tech 2 frames, and the second Scout frame has bonuses towards EWAR, scout would fit the most imo.

I think for one, scanner results should be available to all members of a team. That would make scouting more useful to the entire team.
Maybe only scout suits get the bonus or only scout suits can relay position of enemies to every member of the team.
Now that would make this game more fun

Currently scouts have one of two roles they are either light Assaults/skirmishers or some sort of commando unit and none of these roles get represented by skills.
Even upcoming bonus to cloaks gets more in the light Assault/commando corner the into the scout corner...
To perform as a scout they need a lot of love.
First they need shared team view: what the scout sees should be visible for the squad/team.
Secondly they need scan assist points for passive scanning
Thirdly they need way better scan range and precision to work as scout
And maybe they need some sort of special ability like mark an area for orbitals to speed up the orbital strike or something like this.... |
