Well a few questions but first I'd like to make a few- whatever I'm just gonna ask.

 What is a noob?

 What is a scrub?

Is there such thing as a noobscrub or scrubitynoob?

 What is a tryhard?

What's the difference between trying hard and being a scrub/noob?

 Is a tryhard

someone's who's bad at the game but is willing to take suggestions and admit they suck

someone who's bad at the game that thinks there good

someone who's bad at the game yet blame others around them why there bad and calls everyone noob

someone who's bad but refuses to take suggestions and wonders why they're way isn't working

what is the terminology for someone who likes to have fun in games?

Noob is anyone who's new at the game, it's a contraction of newbie.

Scrub nad tryhard I've never heard/seen with relation to games, untill I came to the Dust forums, but this is my first multiplayer FPS so that may be why. I don't know what either means.

As to the term for someone who likes to have fun in games, I would have thought that is 'player' but from the number of people who claim to be players of the game and have no fun at all doing it, but who still hang around bitching about it, I'm not so sure anymore.

If you play DUST you are a scrub. Scrubs are no good at popular fps games, so instead they come here where you can get good enough gear to negate any opposing player's superior skills. People here strafe a little back and forth over a triage hive and consider that to be 'skills'
Noobs are the players who think this is anything but a poorly executed Pay 2 Win copy of BF3 with futuristic skins on everything.

Not quite sure what that makes me then as whilst I do play Dust, I'm here because it's a CcP made game in the New Eden universe I have no interest at all in the popular FPS games and I couldn't care less about min/maxing my gear because I don't give a damn about my KDR or my ranking on the leaderboards. Also, I have never, as far as I can remember, strafed over a Triage hive.

I do know however that Dust isn't pay to win, buying Aurum gear will not guarantee you a win, actual skills and common sense, like not running towards a blaster tank whose gun is pointing at you, will win out most of the time.

As to the last part, having never actually played BF3, I just don't know, but at the same time, I do know that CCP will continue to try to improve this game for as long as it's economically viable for them to do so, also adding new content and trying to integrate it with EVE to try and make something truly unique.

If your opinion of this game is so low, feel free to leave and quit moaning about it here on the forums so the rest of us can try to be constructive.

I only know the (correct) answer to your FIRST question ...

'noob' (spelled incorrectly, it should be NUB) is an acronym used in the Military that refers to any New Personnel assigned to a Unit that are not familiar with the procedures and practices; and required duty performance of their position in the Unit. They are classified as a N.U.B. (Non Useful Body) until they are trained up to the standard they are required to pefrom in their position in the Unit.

This acronym was borrowed from the military and applied to the gaming community to apply to anyone who is new to the game and doesn't know what they are supposed to be doing in the game.

The spelling 'noob' arised because people not familiar with the origin of the term spelled it the way it sounds instead of the acronym that it stands for.

There are many other military terms that are commonly used by people that don't realize the military origin.

Short end of the Stick - (Originally **** end of the stick) originated from a military prank ... in the old days, when hundreds of soldiers would use the same dug trench latrine, the ***** would pile up and soldiers would have to use a stick to push the pile down before they could sit and defecate. They would then leave the stick by the latrine door for the next soldier to use. As a prank, sometimes a soldier would turn the stick upside down so that when the next soldier reached for it they would get "the **** end of the stick"

Boat load, butt load, **** load - (Originally Ass Load) originated from soldiers overloading their Mules (Asses). In the old days (before motor vehicles) the Military used Mules (Asses) to move their equipment and soldiers would load their Asses to the point of collapse, then remove a small amount until the Ass was able to carry it leading to the term "now that's an Ass load". This term has had variants applied by people not familiar with the origin, or to be more child friendly.

I'd like to offer an alternative. i've been gaming for a long time, but have never been in the military.

The first uses of "noob" were actually "newbie" and used in MMOs and other early multiplayer games. This became shortened to "newb" which you still occasionally see. Since then, because the term "newb" is generally considered derogatory, people have been spelling it in many ways in an attempt to make it more so, thus we have the most common form today of "noob".

I looked this up, and ironically, this definition is kind of an amalgamation of both of our explanations:
