Please heed my warning CCP.
With the nerf to damage mods. Proficiency skills only applying to one damage type coupled with the explosion resistance as well as weapon resistances of the heavy suit you guys are grossly over buffing the heavy suit.
CCP, do you understand what you're doing here? This is a recipe for disaster. Worse than any FoTM you've created so far. This is not an Exaggeration
I know everything is pretty much set in stone as far as dropsuit changes go but to pad the blow of the invincible heavies you are introducing in 1.8 you guys need to drastically increase the price of heavy suits. Back in Codex Heavies cost about as much as the tanks costed back then. This needs to happen again unless you want this game to become nothing but heavies.
Please, reevaluate the price of heavy dropsuits to fit the risk reward ratio of the suit, I'm begging you guys.

*shrugs* As long as they'll be offering the Gallente heavy suit(s) in the loyalty store, I'll be okay. Think I'm sitting on about 30,000LP with them while I slowly, slowly whittle down the regular versions of my builds. Amazing how a proto build can go from almost 200,000 ISK down to about 45,000 when purchasing LP versions.

Was just in a match, with several good heavies (not even proto) on the opposing team, they had adequate support (not a lot) and they were MOWING things left and right, after they took the city, they went on wheels MOWING any sliver of resistance.
Yes, we lost.
Be afraid of the new breed of heavies.
Edit: Yes, light weapon wielders were also there

Quick note that's important to mention, there are NO EXPLOSIVE RESISTS for heavies in 1.8. Heavies are getting a class bonus to splash damage resistance. That means a fully skilled heavy of any race will take 25% less damage from splash damage from a mass driver, for example, but a direct hit from the same mass driver will do full damage.

Sometimes I miss never seeing tanks in a battle... then I remember the mystical flying soma, and I can't help but smile.

I understand, but by jacking up the price of the suit you're only going to be hurting poor/newer players that can't afford to use them--the ones that could probably benefit the most from the increased durability of the heavy suits.

Balancing by cost is usually folly. The most competitive matches in the game involve those with the isk resources to mitigate any attempt to balance with cost, so this really doesn't do anything to address the problem.
The solution here is really simple: Instead of waiting several months to dial several balance knobs, balance work should consist of single knobs being dialed more frequently. The sooner CCP turns balancing into an iterative process using more conservative adjustments (with close attention feedback the entire way) the sooner we'll see less double and triple buffs/nerfs.

this isnt true...i saw a post by logibro that says a direct hit by a mass driver is still considered splash damage.

I have been calling/hoping/demanding/crying/giddly proclaiming for this kind of more systematic approach to balance for a long time now.
CCP has tons of data about us and how each weapon/suit is playing out. If they make frequent small changes based upon this data it will make game balance so much easier for them in the long run.

I know it's not a complete fix all. I'm sure I mentioned it in the post or at least hinted at it.
You're familiar with this issues of militia tank spam we are dealing with currently? A primary cause of that is ridiculously low price of them at the moment.

I cannot guarantee that this will be the approach in the future, I'm only suggesting the way this should work ideally. All I can do is keep encouraging CCP to improve their process so we can avoid these situations.

Agree 100% sarge, plus you didn't even mention the fact that the HMG was left off of the weapon nerfs. So another buffs for the Sentinels, its going to be sick with heavies in 1.8 unless CCP does something.
They should:
1) Decrease the damage on HMG akin to the decrease the CR is getting
2) reduce the per level damage resistances to 2% or only give them resistance against 1 type instead of 2.
I have the feeling they made up the new Sntinel bonuses first, then the weapon and damage mod nerfs, but then didn't go back to look at what they've done with the Sentinel bonuses. Typical sloppy CCP work.
Most tankers are like sand people. They frighten easily, but will quickly return...and in greater numbers.

I don't see a problem with heavies costing a bit more then the smaller suits due to more materials being required to build it. However it shouldn't be more then say 25-30ish % more

When the Mass Driver has a stat called 'Direct Damage' and 'Splash Damage', I'm gonna need you to link that post. If a direct hit with a Mass Driver or any other direct/splash damage weapon is resisted by a Sentinel as splash damage, that's a major oversight and needs to be reworked.
(Hint: The Mass Driver does have stats called 'Direct Damage' and 'Splash Damage', so you're gonna need to link that post.)

I'll be playing heavies quite a bit because they're new and I want a chance to get my hands on them. Nothing more, nothing less.
Actually, I'll spend most of my time with the Caldari Sentinel, Commando, and Scout, (because they're 'new', but should have been in game since the beginning) but I'll give all the new stuff a good long try.
