I'm curious as to why the breach variant was nerfed equally as hard as the main variant.
Quick comparison:
Current STD AR DPS: 425 Current STD BAR DPS: 340
The BAR presently has a slower rate of fire (and thus is potentially less reliable) as well as having less damage per clip. It does, however, have a slightly tighter hipfire spread.
But look at that DPS. It is, by far, the lowest of all of the rifles. None of the other rifles dip below 425 DPS base, leaving the BAR (which is in the shortest ranged rifle class) as the weakest hitting weapon.
In 1.8:
1.8 STD AR DPS: 375 1.8 STD BAR DPS: 300
The BAR appears to be getting nerfed by the exact same percentage as the main variant, despite it already being much weaker. In 1.8 it will, in fact, have the lowest DPS of all hitscan weapons - every sidearm will do better DPS. Even the flaylock on splash damage alone will out-damage it.
This is problematic. So, I would like to ask - why was the same blanket damage reduction applied to this weapon when it clearly didn't need it? The old DPS would be perfectly acceptable on this weapon - it'd still be the lowest DPS of all the rifles, but not by nearly as much of a margin.
Incidentally, regarding the notion that it is a 'mimic weapon' and therefore should be worse than the other rifles - this is a terrible argument. The assault variants of the other rifles are equally as good as the normal assault rifle, and there is no point in having a weapon that is simply 'worse' than the others.

I concur with your analysis of both the numbers and its real world performance.

Do you honestly think the shortest range weapon, with the slowest rate of fire and half the magazine of other weapons should have high damage? Oh, wait...

I hate to be a total naysayer but it seems more apparent each patch that either:
A. CCP has not put much thought into changes that they bring with each patch
B. They have no clue and contrary to what we are told, they still have no road map with planned out ideas and content.

But all in all I think they had to nerf every AR rather equally to prevent old graves from being stirred if you catch my drift.

i dont think a straight up damage nerf to all weapons is going to fix ttk. its just gonna make pub stomps 50x worse than normal. |

Yeah, now rolling in a Proto Stomping squad will be even easier and far more effective. This will be because while now you can take people by surprise from behind, in 1.8 they will just do a 360, call their squad, and blast you with their Ishukone RR.
At least shotguns will be more effective.

if the hmg remains largely the same in 1.8 hopefully i can work around the new issues to arise but i only see this damage nerf as a straight nerf to mlt vets. its going to be next to impossible to kill anything with mlt with a nerf like that. unless ccp decides to raise base clip sizes of all guns and give more ammo to compensate for the decreased damage. |

The HMG does not appear to have any changes. Which is amusing. And quite probably a mistake.

might be that way due to the relatively short range of the hmg.
even so. my use currently with std hmg normally involves alot of head shot kills as i dont entirely aim at the body i aim a little up to where my targets head is inside the circle. its been usefull so far. but doesnt compete at range.almost useless there.
but from going up against proto heavies one to many times. it will obliterate anything that isnt strafing. |
