Increased TTK + weapon proficiency changes + nerfed damage mods mean only one thing: dual tanking is still the best way to fit suits and Cal Logis are still the master race.

In this scenario meta means the most optimal way to play the game without going outside the boundaries of it, those being cheating like turbo fire etc, therefore using a cal logi which is the best dual tanked suit 4/5 does not go beyond the "rules" of the game. By using this suit you optimize your tank of a medium suit to its max while remaining powerful in offense.

In 1.8 a prof 5 Proto rail does 497 DPS that wipes a max tanked Gallente suit in less than two seconds. The new prof bonus is just as bad as the old one because it punishes pure tankers just as much as the old one did.

I think the biggest change to "fitting meta" is the proficiency change and that it makes the "omni" guys that dabble in a little bit of everything a tad more viable. If you are going up against a bunch of people using Caldari stuff you'll bust out the ScR gallente a RR and so on. Yes everyone is going to be dual tanking (LOL for once I'm ahead of the curve) but really only Amarr suits and Min logi can truly dual tank. A gallente assault can put all shield extenders in his highs but he is still going to be more armor than sheild tanked.

To me, meta refers to way in which other peoples' selections of gear affects your selection. For me, the term originates from MTG tournaments- having a great deck is important, but more important is knowing what sort of decks your opponents are running and building yours appropriately. Basically, it's picking rock, paper, or scissors, depending on whether scissors, rock, or paper is most common on the field. But, if too many people start building to counter some FoTM option, the FoTM is suddenly no longer the FoTM, and the "meta" shifts again. That's why it's meta-game.
In 1.8, with proficiency changes and heavily nerfed damage mods, there's no viable rock to the scissors of dual tanking. Everything else is just going to be paper in comparison. Ideally, IMO, it should be stealth beats glass-cannon which beats super-tanked which beats stealth.
Joseph Ridgeson wrote:Caldari Logis are the go to now? Weird, I only see Gallente Logistics as the current Flavor of the Month when on the field. Haven't seen a bumblebee in a while.
I still see Cal Logis as the most common proto suit. It's true that Gal Logis are superior for damage mod stacking, but I still see a preference for the inherent regen available to Cal Logis. In any case, Cal was FoTM for much longer than Gal has been, and it's about to go straight back to Cal.

Cal Logi has been and always will be the best dual tanker. Low base armor is easily compensated for with plates, while high base shields are much harder for other races to beat with modules. Plus, there's the fact that they simply have more module slots than any other suit.

IMO they should just be the shield version of the Amarr Logi- sidearm, 4H 3L 3E. Boom, they're still combat logis, they just can't stack stupid amounts of EHP any more.
Bonus- the removal of intrinsic reps means nothing to them because they're getting a fat nanohive resupply bonus, which also applies to armor repair- which means they're looking at nearly 100HP/s from Wiyrkomi hives.

Than you don't balance that by letting modules act outside of their damage profile and enable having nearly every suit do so, that compounds more problems. Simply making it less attractive for a suit to fit a tank opposite it's racial HP/letting it have better bonuses for fitting it's innate HP and letting suits that do dual tank have a easier time fitting both modules but not by as much/as little depending on the race.

It doesn't ultimately matter- the effect is the same. Whether dual-tanking is 1% or 5% or 15% or 25% better, it's still the best, and that's what counts.

As much as I love knifing (which is a lot), they'll never be truly viable as long as backpedaling is as effective as it is. Uncloak -> charge knives still leaves enough time for a rifle user to bunny hop, turn, and backpedal + spray until the poor scout goes down. TTK increases and cloak won't rescue knives from EZMode514, especially with the MD buff incoming. Of course, I'm still going scout in 1.8, because FoTM is boring.

That's actually the OPPOSITE of the word meta. Meta literally means "beyond." Meta-gaming is when you play the game outside the game. For example complaining on the forums until the changes you want made in the game are made is an example of actual meta gaming. Getting your friend to cut your opponents cable line the night of a PC match would also be a good example of meta-gaming. Anything you can do in the game and the game alone is simply "gaming" but the word "meta" has come to replace "trend" and it honestly makes no sense.

There's also a game beyond the straight standard game mechanics but within the game system overall, which is what I'm referring to. There is a meta-game involving the fitting system- presently, it has settled on maximum EHP/DPS, and shows no sign of shifting with 1.8. GTFO with your linguistic prescriptivism.

Anyone mind enlightening me? ;) Don't worry. I don't think it makes sense in this context either. Fitting your suit if pretty much the opposite of the meta game as it exists completely within the standard game mechanics. Crunching numbers to find the best fit is not the meta game.
A famous example of the "meta game" is when you find a newish corp that wants to move to NULL and needs to haul a substantial amount of materials out their new home. So you join the corp/befriend them while adopting a **** poor (but hilarious) Eastern European accent so as to conceal your true identity. Then after several months when they are ready for the big move you have managed to be the one trusted to actually do the hauling. Then everybody heads out to their brand new home in NULL. Only you never show up with all their stuff. You get on corp chat with your real voice and inform them that you have taken everything they have and it's yours now and they can kindly **** off. They cry sweet tears of sorrow and in their fits of rage they yell that they'll report you or get their revenge one day or how you're a total piece of **** for doing that them or it just isn't fair. But you don't hear any of this because the stolen assets of an entire corporation you have in your trunk is making too much noise.
And also after you do all that you release the recordings of the whole thing onto the internet and a great LOL is had by all.
Running a blaster tank in ambush is like bringing Anthrax to a pillow fight.
