So some of you bitter vets may vaguely remember me from chromosome back when I was one of the guys who always ran LR's. I like to think that I was running it before it became the new trend as I was using it as soon as it got introduced to the game. Or at the very least, I was one of the first people to understand it was terrible at close range, and more importantly, that its damage charged up over time (at least within my group of friends at the time).
Well anyway, 1.0 dropped and the LR was ruined because of those awful iron sigts, coupled with TERRIBLE aim controls. Well, skip 5 months later and I find out the LR is at least decent again! Skip 6 months later and I have the proto amar suit and the proto LR again! Skip 8 months later and now the CR and RR generally out perform my LR suit at range.........
So anyway, heres my new experiences with the gun as I have been running it a lot more often this past week.
The reason I respecced into the LR was because I was looking for a long range "solution" for those open maps. At the time the CR and RR wasn't out yet so my only options were the Tac rifle, SR, and LR. The Tac R was nerfed to hell and I just didn't have it in me to spec into it. The SR was the first gun I unlocked in 1.0, and while I feel its good in close range and medium range, I don't really consider a good long range gun. So I specced into the LR and hey! Its good! But then the RR came out, and oh boy do I love it when that thing beats me at long range combat! Especially when im still in my optimal ...... Meanwhile its also good at close range where as I have to give up precious resources to fit a proto SMG.
So anyway, I find that the LR is great when its in its optimal environment. Except when the RR is also in its optimal, because then I have to run away or 7/10 times ill lose that fight. And sometimes I just lol when a combat rifle beats me in mid range combat when im still in my optimal.
Other then that, the LR works fine and I normally manage to pull in good scores with it! Except 50% of the time when I spawn into an ambush with the other team tank spamming! Then I just lose anyway....... SUCCESS!!!! (seriously I cant wait for 1.8 when CCP fixes this TTK nonsense )

There are a few things to consider anyway: they're going to buff the damage a bit, and it's ok. They're going to rise maximum heat. And that's ok too. But they're leaving Amarr Assault bonus as it is. I wonder how much damage can a Viziam deal at its maximum heat and I wonder if it actually overheats on an Amarr suit.
Actually there not buffing the damage, there just increasing the "range" of its optimal range. It will be better at medium range, and it will have a longer range in general. There not doing anything to the damage of it, and I don't think there touching the heat build up at all.

Yeah, its getting an "optimal range buff" which will give it more overall range and more medium range capabilities. I think its a needed buff honestly, just so the LR can actually compete with the RR

Well if they do then lol, that'll be pretty nice! Even though the proto LR overheats at 17 with the amar suit anyway. I guess that would make the LR usable on other suits as well, similar to how the SR can be used on other suits.

I always carry hives with me, which sucks because I can run a scanner on my SR suit. So basically, yeah, because of the nature of the gun it goes through ammo pretty quick.

(shhhhhhh, let everyone think the RR is more powerful)
But seriously, everyone says the SR is OP but hardly anyone uses them, at least not in comparison to the RR. If it were truly OP I would imagine more people would be using it.

It's because it takes some (Read: minuscule) level of skill to handle, most just want to point their weapon in a direction and get easy kills, when TTK comes up we may see more using it.
YOU HEARD IT HERE FOLKS!!!! IT TAKES SKILL TO USE THE SR!!!

Well, in my opinion, you should only be engaging in long range anyway, so the scanner is less important. And im sure that by now you know how much of a crutch the scanners are. Considering there getting uber nerfed next build I would start getting off of them if I were you.

What about the Assault SR???
And the MD is wonderful if you have any sort of high ground on somebody. Especially right now considering everyone runs armor tanks. My LR is worse off because everyone is running armor tanks :(

Lol sinboto, I respected you up until about one sentence ago I think you need to try out the ASR and see that its pretty bad, especially right now!

LR is not useless, certainly, but it's infuriating getting taken down by RR scrubs in heavy suits in it's optimal. How a fully automatic weapon with the range of the LR, DPS and ease of use of the AR, no bullet trails, and a better scope than the old TAR made sense to anyone is difficult to comprehend.
Without the benefit of the Amarr assault bonus on my logi suits the LR just isn't viable. So I went back to the ScR and CR (similar mechanic but way less fitting cost).
For now....
What I don't understand is why CCP cant hotfix these things. Maybe its the fee for updating something through sony? But on EVE they do updates like every other day. They should be able to balance guns at the same rate! I mean, shouldn't they be able to keep the stats of the weapons we use server side? So that they can change them whenever they want to and not require us to download anything? Idk...... but yes, 1.8 is going to be my salvation!

3 damage mods and proficiency 4 on my ASR is worse then 3 damage mods and proficieny 3 on my CR right now. (everyone is armor tanking) If shield tanking gets good again the ASR will probably be the polar opposite of the RR or CR.

Everyone is brick tanking their suits in 1.7. Even Caldari are warring Plate. That gives the RR the edge. When TTK is increased it will make shields more viable, so less people will run armor plate. This will favour the Scrambler Rifle, and the Laser Rifle for that matter. Add to that the fact that fully skilled Gallente Heavies will have a 15% resist to the RR, and the Scrambler Rifle will be very close to the RR there as well.
Shield tanking would be nice to do again! I hope it gets more common. But honestly...... Im not sure how well my SR/LR is going to do against all the heavy spam that is forecasted.

It's not the best weapon, but a hell of a lot better than the tactical, breach or burst ARs, which are what it should be compared with.
Yeah, it should be compared with all of that stuff, but unfortunately, you cant compare it with the AR because nobody uses the AR. Especially not on a competitive level. Which means the only realistic thing we can compare it with right now is the CR and RR. In which case, given the current meta game environment, the ASR is inferior.

Remnant's first statement on the matter was actually that they were hotfixing it (early January I think that was). I almost had a stroke but then he said a few days later that the coding was way more difficult than they anticipated somehow so it was pushed back to 1.8.
Okay, but the RR is just one thing! Balance patches should be happening literally all the time in general! Not be put off for months on end so they can rap it properly in a nice little box surrounded by new content that they will also likely need to balance.
