imho the answer comes down to frame rates. Some devs have been able to make fps games for the PS3 with playable frame rates and CCP Shanghai has been unable to (for whatever reason). No matter what CCP does to 'polish' this game, it will never be at a frame rate that makes it feel 'good'.
They can optimize PS3 code all year to make it playable, but to what end? Just to port it to a new architecture and lose all of that development time and effort?
No I truly believe this game needs to get off the PS3 as fast as possible. They can make it 'cross-platform' if they want, and just have separate game modes where the PS4 can do 32v32 with better optimizations or whatever and the PS3 can just get the new low res models in a 16v16 format. They can leave the PS3 there and just stop developing new content for it, letting the 500 or so players who would continue to play on the PS3 to switch over or quit on their own, discontinuing PS3 support something in 2015.
Also, x86 architecture guys, it would speed up development for these guys who clearly struggle with rapidly deploying updates on the PS3's terrible powerpc architecture.
PS4 asap imo, even if the game is unpolished. Better self-publishing platform, better hardware, better experience.
Most of the people I know who have quit will probably not come back as long as this game is on the PS3, it just feels horrible playing at ~15-20 fps, not when they can play games at 30+ on their PS4.
Last point: see how bad the rifles were balanced after hit detection was fixed in 1.4? Imagine how bad everything will be once we get decent frame rates on the PS4... you SHOULD NEVER balance weapons based on ****** frame rate. PS4 asap, it'll be better in the long run. |

I don't believe that and I suspect CCP doesn't either.
If they could release a Dust 514 'PS4 beta' by November 2014, and then keep it in beta until its ready (marketing dates and BS aside) I think people would be very accepting of it.
At the same time, have Wolfman and Remnant finish up the last few missing pieces of racial line ups like Min/Amarr HAVs and LAVs, and focus on getting everything relatively balanced by Nov. They would be in a great spot.
Then, in Summer 2015, they come out of beta on the PS4 with a polished UI on the PS4 after a 8-10 month beta period. 2.0 releases with a focus on NPE and PVE for new players hearing about the 're-release' of Dust 514 on the PS4.
Sounds pretty solid to me.
Over the course of 2.0 they focus on releasing 1 or 2 new vehicle types, a new map/socket here and there and focus on a more fleshed out low-sec PC 2.0 experience for 3.0 in 2016. Iterate and polish that up for null-sec PI and PoS invasions in 2017.
Its slow development in true CCP fashion but hell... that's even making a cynic like me excited. Anyone without a PS4 will really need to care until PC 2.0 in 2016 - which should be exclusive to PS4. PS3 can still do 16v16 public contracts but come 3.0 in 2016 - new content for PS3 stops, until the player numbers on the PS3 are low enough to discontinue the client altogether. |

Why? FFXIV is in PS4 beta atm while having a full release PS3 and PC version and no one is freaking out over that.
And yes, for as long as it takes to get the controls, bugs, graphics, etc up to par. If there is one thing Uprising taught us its that you don't release a build too early 'just because'. |
