The amount of energy in those weapons even if it goes off next you has enough energy to completely vaporize your body several times over. With muzzle velocities well over 2,500 m/s at such speeds and the amount of energy going into them how does one survive even a glancing hit from these weapon systems? It takes 3 gigajoules to vaporize a human body by separating all of its component atoms. These weapons when they fire should be drastically changing the battlefield around them at those energies and speeds.
The map with the table in the center? How does it survive repeated impacts from a metallic slug travelling at 2,500 m/s at 80Gjs of energy behind it? Why are these maps not twisted landscapes at the end of a battle? To keep science from crying to much they change their fluff around in ways that doesn't really effect game play. Hell that "small" turret at 20 GJs is packing enough energy to completely melt most of what it hits.
I propose the 20 GJ turret become a 3 GJ turret. The 80 GJ turret becomes 10 or even 15. The named ones like "Plasma 80 GJ turret" your firing a magnetically contained ball of superheated hydrogen that has the same temperature as the photosphere of our sun. Whatever it touches is going to be gone. Now I understand this is suppose to be the hyper-future but technology should still at least make sense.
Forge Gun slugs travel in excess of 7000m/s so I'd assume the 80GJ Railgun slug would exceed that
80GJ Cannons (rail and blaster alike) are quite silly as a (Large, 14m long axis and volume of mere 50m-¦) 425mm Railgun I requires 21GJ to activate and these things are mounted on battleships such as the Rokh
As for the plasma, there are a variety of plasma rounds in EVE universe
The Eve universe is not known to be scientifically accurate and I'm going to assume that it'll stay that way because (sadly) science Gëá fun

It's part of the reason that when they talked about not wanting to get too crazy with the "colors" I was a little miffed, since the color-range of lasers, etc. in EVE is so broad and awesome. I'd like to see more than the orange-white color scheme for most guns we have now that would fit in in a game like BF, etc.
Lasers lasers are pretty awesome in EVE, sadly in Dust they are mostly bleh

Even a glancing it is going to create a pressure wave that is going to tear you apart. "Shields" is only going to take you so far in trying to explain the often wonky physics of New Eden.
And yes Hecarim I was looking at my Eve ship and its power with weapons and it just seems even more out of whack when those land based weapons have more power and smaller than what I'm putting on a massive ship. The OBs that come down since they are most often laser based what amount of energy are they putting out that is instant kill? I think an OB should be a field changer like your whole screen goes white and you are in a blasted wasteland.
There would be little bits and chunks to bury of the guy who fired it
While the space lasers we now have are small (turrets with a 3m long axis or so) in Templar One a Revelation class Dreadnought created a 50meter wide and 900meter long scar ("1second tight beam exposure") with extreme heat (searing) felt over 2 kilometers away from the spot followed by a shock wave
So yes, a destroyer firing 8 small guns into a complex should change the landscape quite a bit

science Gëá fun
Though CCP should just rename the guns to something that actually makes sense, battleship grade weapons on a tank are just stupid :|
