There have been quite a few ideas about how to improve the red-line and all the issues that arise from it's existence. Some ideas--that I shall not go into, while being very inventive, could cause very serious issues with the client and server sides of the software,(i.e rendering those whom have slightly slower connections unable to play the game).
Therefore, I propose that we should just scrap the idea of a red-line all together and just have a massive force field descend from the bottom of each MCC all the way to the ground beneath them. And if you want a spawn point on the ground you have to hack a special building where the town spawn would be and then a smaller force field is erected around that or just use the random CRU's provided and spawn pads.
If you want to take the other teams town spawn you have to bombard it's force field with rail and missile tanks until it collapses and then your team can hack the console inside. This would eliminate a need for the red-line as well as making a battle a little more dynamic.
There will be those of you worried about being deprived of CRUs or supply depots at said town spawns, which in most cases Tankers more-often-than-not tend to destroy at the beginning of the match anyway. Which as we all know results in neither side having any of the aforementioned infrastructural elements thereby creating an intense reliance on spawn pads, nanohives, and the MCC, at least in most matches I've been in.
But worry not, for if we were to have the ability to call down our own infrastructural elements (i.e. CRUs,Turret Installations,Supply Depots, as I've read might be coming anyway) this might alleviate your concerns in this regard.
Or a module could be created that will allow any vehicle, that can afford to equip it, the ability to become a mobile supply depot in much the same way as Tankers and Dropship pilots equip the mobile CRU module, now.
Go ahead and snipe me. I'm gonna add another Thale's to my collection.

The redline should be a place where you can't drop your own equipment. The mcc should have turrets that you have automatically kill enemies nearby, or it can be used to shoot that guy with a railgun or sniper shooting into the spawn. Enemies near the mcc and ground base should be constantly scanned. Warpoints won't be earned inside the enemy redline being that you're leaving the district vulnerable. For vehicles they could be shut down completely until the enemy team hacks it, or it explodes. All of this will make the redline feel more realistic than it is.
You're idea reminds me of starhawk where you would deploy a forcefield in the center of you're base that can be destroyed. I also like that mobile supply depot idea. It sounds like it could be a nice medium frame vehicle.

the problem with the redline is that it is to big on some maps and rewards trolls for getting safe kills the idea of the force field is a really good idea and would open the battle field to a more exiting game play.
on the force field their needs to be a timer that last from 1 minute to 3 minutes that prevents some one from getting their kills and running back to the safety of the spawn area.
another solution would be to have the first hit they get have them constantly lit up for the other team to see exactly were they are the hits after that apply a stacking 100% damage vulnerability debuff and a stacking 10% debuff to their weapon damage.
now to help get players out of being redlined they could get a Immunity buff that last for about 30 seconds along with their called in vehicles so that they can get out of the redline and set up some were else this would instantly be removed upon firing their weapons or activating remote explosives. |

I like the idea but the force field should be more like a star wars shield ( like the battle of naboo shield not ray shields ) or halo bubble shield, both teams can enter or exit it but can't fire through it, you won't want to go through it if you're the wrong team but you can quickly chase any person trying to run in to or hide in

Good suggestion, but some of it would require a lot of back and forth for the client and server sides of the software which would bog down datalines, (i.e. anything that requires determination of reward or punishment by the software).
Not having a safe zone to drop equipment would leave everyone vulnerable to some rail-gunning **** sitting in the middle of the map instead of on the edge of the red-line.
I do like the idea of the MCC blapping anyone who get too close, serves them right, but I'm not entirely certain I'd trust any A.I. they could program. Given how wonderfully Scotty and A.I. installations have worked thus far.

I love star wars too.
But, no one being able to fire through the shield creates the situation where proto-stompers could corner the weaker team, effectively trapping them inside the force field/s, just waiting outside their perimeter for the first fool to try and exit(i.e. force field camping, much like red-line camping is now).
Instead the force fields should behave more like they do in Planetside 2. Allowing the team that owns the force field to fire out, thereby making camping the perimeter of it suicide. I feel this would eliminate camping of this sort.
Also, they should only allow the owning team to enter. We do need some kind of safe haven after all.
Allowing hard hitting tanks to be the only means by which to knock down the force field/s creates a certain need for team work adding some much needed dynamics to the gameplay experience.

I get where your coming from, but I seriously doubt anyone is just going to hang around the town spawns if they want to at least try and win a match. If they don't screw them because your most likely going to win.

If you add your new "redline" feature, proto stomping will be SO MUCH WORSE! The enemy team would just blow up the force field and camp the victimized team. They would just circle the mini field and the instant someone leaves they would die. |

Loved Starhawk, played it, top 100 players if not #1 in it. Now back on topic, I fell the only redline that should exist is one no one can go into. The pre existing team redlined should just be heavily fortified at the town spawn which should be like an other normal outpost but harder to take from another team. Then to the idea of a shield below the MCC, what should happen is that once a MCC is in orbit it deployed a device that omits a shield bubble so big that can be disabled and destroyed if one person can get close to the shields generator. The shield should only prevent vehicle entry so enemy infantry can engage friendly troops and vehicles and installations so redlining is a greater achievement.
Now to the installation idea, their could be a skill tree that allows you to purchase and call in installations. Some other skills involved could be the amount of health they have or decrease heat build up and increase turn speed. These skills could aid the support role of the game and would put a use to the installations section of the deployment screen.

Firstly, the only force field that can be knocked down would be the one at the town spawn, the one that the MCC produces would be invincible for obvious reasons.
Secondly, if anyone is dumb enough to spawn in where they know full well enemies are camping they deserve to be spawn camped.
Thirdly, apparently you didn't read what I posted further down the thread.

Lastly, in order to prevent people from just sitting in the force field surrounded areas and sniping people from there it could be coded to where every kill attained within a force field gains no war points and won't even count in your k/d/r or in the k/d/r of the person you killed.
Problem solved.

The solution is much simpler than this. It's so ******* simple.
Put buildings around the redline preventing tanks and snipers from being able to see any objective. Can't be a scrub and hide in the redline if you can not see anything to kill them.
No you kill this blueberry hacking the CRU we are camping. I already killed the last 2.
