It seems like the laser rifle is pretty useless now. It used to do some damage. Now it just makes a pretty light. Somebody told me nobody uses them any more. Is that true? If so, then wtf?

It will be buffed in 1.8 however, same with the mass driver. The rail rifle, combat rifle, and maybe some other weapons are also being nerfed as part of an effort to increase time-to-kill. 1.8 will also change up a lot of suit bonuses, add all missing racial dropsuits (Caldari heavy and light, Minmatar heavy, Gallente heavy, Amarr light), ad 3 new sidearms. I agree, right now the rails rifles are the jackass of all trades and all the beta weapons right now are overshadowed by the new rifles, plasma is supposed to dominate at close range but I would rather see an AR than a rail rifle at close range right now.
