How would you like to see it work? What can CCP do to monetize rollover SP? Should nublets be granted the privilege to grind to the SP values of top vets, or just to a certain value? Was CCP Nothin fired for speaking on the topic of rollover SP? Why does this game need to be a second job if I want to keep up? Who decided that this current system was good enough to keep in place for so long?
CCP Nothin wrote:Now, in regard to the weekly skill cap and the implications of it:
We acknowledge that the current implementation of the skill cap still isn't quite there yet. It doesn't quite allow people to choose when to play as freely as we would like, and it also adds some unnecessary complexity when it comes to using active boosters. This is why we are working our way towards a rollover SP system: instead having your pool of bonus SP being reset according to a fixed weekly cycle, you will steadily accumulate bonus SP to a pool over time that you can then empty through fighting in battles. As a result, everyone should be able to better choose when to come in and claim the available SP. Moving to such a system would have the added benefit of allowing us to make active boosters to give out a constant value over time by having them influence the rate at which SP accumulates into the pool instead of just multiplying SP received at the end of each battle.

But in reality, I think CCP knows that if we have rollover SP, we'll no longer need our weekly SP fix, and the habit keeping us playing Dust might be kicked.

That's why I'm suggesting a method that should see the same average of log ins and playing but it will be spread out over the weak instead of Wednesday through Sunday

Troll post.
You've been around longer then i have. You know as well as any Vet the reason they haven't added in the rollover system was because it became completely borked due to the booster multipliers, and they haven't figured out how to address the issue.
I know this from the multiple threads that have popped up over the past year and a half, asking what happened to it, with the DEVS responding with the above answer.

You enjoy farming likes more then playing the game, don't you? That was before Devs changed boosters so that they don't increase cap. Now, with the boosters being a simple SP. multiplier instead of screwing with cap, it'd be way easier to implement a rollover system. A simple rollover of up to 3 weeks worth of cap would make everyone happy, and not screw things up for everyone. Pretty much everything CCP said pre-uprising is irrelevant and untrue at this point, so stop defending CCP's outmoded position and get with the program.
You can still get two weeks worth of cap on a 7 day booster, is that broken? No, so I don't see why it would be any other way. And besides, pig is specifically asking for ways for CCP to monetize it without being P2W, and I don't think boosters will even be necessary by the time we get SP rollover.

This one is obvious.
Suggestion: Available active SP ticks, just like passive SP. Active boosters increase the rate at which it accumulates*, which means you have an incentive to run constant active boosters, regardless of whether you play or not.
* The awarded SP is also increased ofc, but the full amount is drawn from the pool. |

Like it or not, the only way to make this game better at this point would be to go full on pay to win. This game's fundamental flaw is its single player game inspired skill point system. The game is built around it and this cannot be changed. So remove the weekly cap, and also sell SP in the market as well as boosters. The devs are sitting on a gold mine. If even half the money went back into the game DUST could actually be the game it was promised to be. It's working for other games.

Can you explain this further? I'm not sure if I get it.
Weekly cap without boosters is 190k, or 27k per day. So if it is reset on Wednesday, and I play on Wednesday, I can only earn up to 27k toward my cap and then it goes back to 1000 SP per match?
What prevents people from waiting to play until Monday/Tuesday so that 6-7 days worth of cap are built up, and using boosters as usual? Wouldn't this only change the grind days? |

What prevents people from waiting to play until Monday/Tuesday so that 6-7 days worth of cap are built up, and using boosters as usual? Wouldn't this only change the grind days? Basically, you get 27k added to your cap every downtime. You could look at it as seven separate SP pools, one for each day in a week. If, after a week, you didn't use all of the SP in the oldest pool, it would be overwritten with the new 27k, and all unused SP would be lost.
So yes, you could grind out 27k on Wednesday and cap out for the day, but you'd get another 27k tomorrow. If you didn't use all of Wednesday's 27k by next week, you'd forfeit any remaining SP and be bumped back to 27k.
As he said, this would allow you to save up for a few days, then play the game at your leisure and cap it out, also alleviating "Proto Wednesday" and "Dead Tuesday".

tbh I've personally stopped caring about the cap. I don't care if it's there or not any longer. It really just restricts newbies. The people who grind like crazy already have over 40-50 mill sp. They are going to max their characters sooner or later.

I'm still burnt out on this topic fron the thread we had in closed beta, but in reading this it seems there's a huge incidental advantage to sp rollover:
It would spread out the Wednesday grindstomp, increasing the quality of teams and squads towards the end of the skillpoint-week, and make Wednesday/Thursday a little more playable for struggling players and the NPE.
I support SP rollover.

There is no need for complicated expiration systems for active SP. Really.
It simply accumulates.
Active SP boosters would be sold not by "time", but by "SP amount".
A weekly active booster would morph into a 194,000 SP booster. It boosts that much SP and then runs out. No gaming which day you activate it, no deciding you don't need an active booster because you already have a huge active SP pool and you don't need it to accrue any faster.
it's childishly simple. |
