Hey shadow. One alliance mate to another, as a sniper, I'll explain:
For one, I would LOVE to see the redline removed, or reduced significantly. By reduced I mean instead of making it surround a map, make it linear to limit the snipers field of vision. So I do not condone redline sniping. Am I guilty of it? On occasion (outside of being pushed back). So here's why, point by point:
1. With the 1.7 tank spam, and railgun tanks being as OP as they are, it's just not safe to enter the playing field with a sniper rifle. When it's my Covenant rifle, I don't care. But I'm not running into the field with a charge rifle the way I would before. Hell, even the redline isn't safe from them anymore. Worse yet, they don't even have to hit you half the time, just in your general direction.
2. The current heavy event. If I snipe, no way will I stand up to heavy in the map. Especially those douchebags running heavy fits with RR's. As for Thale usage, I don't condone using thales in pubs (as it's arguably the most OP weapon in the game), but I have been using them during this event on occasion because it's the only real way to bring down all these heavies. Using a charge (my weapon of choice) There's simply not enough time to build up a second and third shot to finish them off, even with damage mods. With so many heavies out there now, it's almost impossible to kill them. So the thale (not figuring in Dam mods or headshot) is 1545 per clip damage. While the charge is more at full power (just south of 2000), the time makes it not practical. Kali's and Ishukone's just don't cut it, as it's 80HP less damage per shot.
3. Most of my kills are countersniping. No problems there, it's part of the game and a viable trade. Other than that, I use the redline in the beginning of the match to scout what the enemies doing with the scope and reporting activity. I love sniping from doorways and ledges in game on the ground. Again though, given 1.7's state, I'm only doing that in BPO gear.
How to fix it:
1. Fix tank spam and railgun tanks or make AV extremely viable again. 2. The heavy event will end, so that's just a matter of waiting. 3. Nerf the Thale, or make them more available so people won't be afraid to lose them and hide in the redline. To balance it, raise the requirements to use them. I think prof. 5 and at least opt. 2 should be a requirement for any officer weapons being used personally. 4. Make the maps better. Every map is rocky terrain surrounding an installation of some sort. Give snipers better places in the map to shoot, but still make it so they can be killed if not careful. Think about it. Other than the redline, the only real viable alternative is up high. Maps need to be more diverse.
I'm not saying I do it a lot, or even a quarter of the time. However, I know that by doing it I'm not helping. I'm not saying it's right, but it's just one small part of a bigger problem in this game we all know about: Balance and making EVERY class viable.
BTW, I laugh at heavy snipers. Sooooo stupid. Can't move for cover as well, and it just screams noob. I say that because my Caldari ck.0 Thale fit is tanked to almost 1100 HP between shields and armor, and I have a rep and damage mod on it. So in my eyes, there's really no need for it. I can survive pretty much any sniper that takes a shot at me, and I retain more mobility. I've never lost a Thale to prove it, I still have 18 of them. I've had some snipers take a big chunk out of me, but never finished me off in that suit. I've been lucky I guess that I haven't been done in by a railgun tank or forge gun. |
