Increase zoom or give us better scopes. Crosshairs so it's not like a SL within 200m.
I tired using my trusty ishukone and from 300m away, targets were like cocroaches. It's really hard to sniper when you can't really get accurate especially from 300m away. Then I picked up my thales to compare the zooms and it is soooo much easier to sniper with just because it doesn't feel like you're tying to sniper ants. buff all sniper scopes maybe giving them ability to zoom in and out.

Hmm...I didn't notice a difference in the zoom. Might have to double check that. I know it says 'increased zoom fidelity', but I really didn't see a difference in zoom.

Extra zoom would be shaaaweeet, but we'd need larger maps so that people could still run at a distance around a popular sniping spot.
It feels more like the damage needs to be improved on the basic hit for STD and ADV, OR possibly that armor and shield extenders cause only headshots to impact a bit harder (like 2% more damage per extender on target)?
Scaling is always an issue with snipers. Too much and they kill to easily, too little and they're useless. I don't use Proto snipers so I can't really say anything about them at the moment.

If it exists in the game it should be useful. Right now the only use SRs get is for when a group of us are bored and and have redline sniping competition.

I dislike proto logis with 3 complex dmg mods and 1000 ehp with the most Overpowerd gun in the game (RR and CR) running around two hitting my suits within one one thousandths of a second. There for remove them.... but this is 90% of dust population so they have more power than me.
It's funny how you people act to a buff to the zoom capability of the sniper. They act as if it would make it OP!!

If I die there alone I switch to Thale's and see enemy dropping while they stomb noobs, It's sad but true. But when I'm with my corpmates I'll do my job as the Logibro and that is rewarding!

I dislike that heavies can't jump over small railings. I *hate* when I have 6 snipers on my team all sitting in one spot for the whole match with maybe three kills between them. You contribute about as much to the team as a poorly placed drop uplink - often considerably less. I've watched a player with a charge sniper manage three kills in over five minutes.
There are decent snipers out there sometimes - but in general I'd rather have anything else because they are plain and simple a better contribution to the team. |

Battlefield snipers are only balanced because of their bullet physics, if you want powerful snipers you need to make it difficult to make hits.

I'd rather have CCP fix rendering distance and the red dot. Once the environment and targets don't pop up from or vanish into nothingness, and the scope only turns red when there's something to hit, we can see what else needs to be done to buff, nerf or diversify sniper rifles.

snipers have always been a vital part of a team what so meany snipers in dust lack is a mic or the brains to join a squad and let there team know what they can see. tanks lav drop ships and troop movement are all useful info i am a proto sniper and i average about 15 kills a match better zoom would b best do to how hard it is to get the scope to move just a little bit to line up a head shot but with the cheapest proto sniper with out damage mods i do well when players stand still and i get kills out at 400+ m away but that's from players standing still a damage buff vs heaves would b a good thing do to the number of them in the game 2 head shots should kill most anyone and 5 body shots you better be dead but some heaves will just sponge up rounds and i don't just snipe i do logie work and run assault too |

Yes.. I snipe (advanced tactical sniper rifle) and the zoom is fine as long as your out of ten red line. The hit detection is a tad off, but other than that snipers are fine. The maps are not large enough to warrant better zoom, but if we see larger maps in the future, then enhanced zoom is a good thing. How bout making a "zoom enhancement" high slot module. So if you want more zoom you have to sacrifice a damage mod.

Not true, I hate shotgunners too, but I wouldn't say anything insulting about them in threads about the SG. I hate tanks and think they are unbalanced at the moment, but I also agreed when they are under powered too. I posted in defense of an HMG buff even though I never used them, but because I thought it was ridiculous how easily I could kill a HMG heavy with my SMG. Snipers are a special hate for me in this game because of the red line and other nearly unreachable places MOST of the snipers in this game snipe from. If you out in the field sniping then I have no problem with you, and I also doubt you are one of the people in this thread QQing about not being able to kill effectively from 400M either. When you pretty much have zero chance of dying, I am not inclined to agree you need a buff. Low risk, low reward.

Alright, the realism argument. Here goes nothing: in the universe of New Eden, where FTL travel is a daily occurrence and capsuleers'/mercs' consciousnesses are for all intents and purposes eternal, contemporary notions of bullet physics and marksmanship are immaterial. Not only is bullet drop irrelevant (assuming a 2500m/s muzzle speed and a bullet weight ranging from 500 - 1000 grains, arc is no more than two inches until it hits zero range at around 600 meters, which is the SRs max range), but I'd go as far as to suggest that zero scope sway makes sense, too. I'll be damned if the gyroscopic technology in my dropsuits isn't developed enough to compensate for the slight sway associated with breathing/etc.!
In any case, seems like there's plenty of agreement among players generally and sniper haters specifically that most snipers usually don't get many kills, so they must really stink if SRs are so easy to use, what with their fake bullet physics and zero scope sway and whatnot! If such is the case, who wants them on the frontline, increasing the likelihood of their team getting cloned? Quite the conundrum.
The myth of the unreachable sniper needs to be examined more closely. What about dropships? With two decent gunners, you can ruin the match for many a redline and tower sniper. The insistence by some that snipers should run with the frontline betrays their ignorance of a sniper's role.
Perhaps the (admittedly anti-lore, silly) lack of scope zoom could be viewed as one of the difficulties a sniper has to account for in order to effectively fill their role?

Better rendering at distance and a higher head shot multiplier would be nice. I also wouldn't mind higher damage across the board, but with an optimal range of ~150-175m with drop off to current damage at ~200-250m with additional gradual drop off after that. This would make proto suits vulnerable if you are fairly close and/or are accurate without adding additional incentive to redline snipers. It would also make red line camping more dangerous for "proto stompers".

oh on, i can certainly kill militia gallante suit if I had a prototype OP rifle that kills them in half a second but sadly i was stupid enough to spec into snipers before i even knew how underpowerd they are....

A good sniper is already a huge nuisance and the instant sniper rifles become a casual weapon the game goes to ****. Right now you at least need to know what you're doing to be effective and invest into sniping. I'll permit just a smidgen less waviness for a little aim wobble, a touch more damage, and MAYBE +100 M zoom, but anything more than that and no **** you.
I'm never going back to that sniper era of the closed beta, never again. |

Dude, look at the replies your last 2 sniper threads have got... Yes distance rendering is bad, but that stops you camping infantry from 400m There is no issue other that , long range issues rendering/hit detection
So stop QQ about not being able to sit in redline and farm, good snipers manage fine
Plasma Cannons works, any less drawbacks
And I would have an Atomic Bomber on my shoulder
