Logi's need limited High and low slots and a NATURAL base health increase by 2 x... Give them twice the survivability... But not the freedom to fit the suit into a better assault... Having more slots and CPU and PG to fit it.... Not Having a secondary weapon isn't significant of a loss when your are good with a weapon....
So CCP's main balancing attempt with the Logi class is no sidearm and isn't even practical in a competitive situation.
The changes will made in 1.8 will keep the Logi suits as slayers... Assaults will be dead in 1.8 Except some Masshole Minmatar's and some SCR Amarr;s...
otherwise everyone will be a Scout, Heavy, Logi.... RIP Assault class. Either I'm over estimating the benefit of the weapon PG/CPU bonus assaults are getting or you are under estimating it. I think its really going to help the assault fit more tank while still having, more base EHP, and faster movement. Plus the Amarr and Minmatar assault bonuses really help compensate for the weaknesses of their racial weapons. I don't see how assault won't make a better slayer than logi come 1.8. However, I would totally go for raising the base EHP of the logi suits and reducing High and Low slots because as a support logi all I use those slots for are tank, armor reppers, and PG upgrades so I wouldn't really see the difference. But isn't the extra tank what the slayer logi is a slayer logi for? What we need is a massive increase in the damage mod stacking penalty.
Severely over estimating.. We have had this with the gallente Assaults and the suit isnt even close to competitive...
What we loose from it being a DPS class... To now it being a Niche specialized class without much general battlefield function... Is an obsolete class except for some massholes and SCR users..
Watch it happen.
Scouts and Logi's will just do the job better...

Hey at least you had your time to shine, feel like my reign of terror is over, I went gallente day one and had to deal with callogies while I was still under 10 mil
1.0-3 Gallente is so neglected... 1.4 WOOO ARMOR TANKING 1.5-6 Still improving 1.7 I am god 1.8....awwwwww
I'm gonna guess that this is the start of the balancing fluctuations to dampen a bit, we're finally getting into a time when the suits might actually fit their intended use so any further fixes will probably be just to deal with isolated issues.

Well scouts are going to be ridiculous come 1.8 most likely and I was the originator of the Gal scout will be better assaults than assaults band wagon, so don't bring them into this debate please I can't speak to Gallente assault but I hold my own with my Minmatar assault and that's widely held to be the worst of the class. Part of your problem is you aren't getting the sidearm bonus ATM.
The way I'm looking at this is at Level 5 in my assault suit and level 5 Optimization we're looking at fitting proto weapon at adv CPU/PG cost and specialist weapons at standard CPU/PG cost. That's quite a bit of PG and CPU to be able to put elsewhere in your fitting. A proto assault SHOULD be able to fit proto primary and sidearm weapons, grenade, and a couple complex of their tank, of choice and 1 complex damage mod and some sort of standard equipment and thus be viable, if we can't with this suit bonus raise the CPU/PG on assaults a bit.
Point is trying to combat the slayer logi by tweaking the logi suits is just going to always screw over actual logis, better bet is to make the slayer suits better in their role and I think the new general and Amarr/Minmatar bonuses are a good start as is better Commandos and Sentinels.
Edit: and if the IRC post is accurate Gal assault are getting innate armor reps too as is Gal logi (I really hope)
Most tankers are like sand people. They frighten easily, but will quickly return...and in greater numbers.

Sigh I can make a PLC relevant in Pubs... 30-40 kills 2-3 deaths.... And hold my own?....
Does that mean its competitive in a corp battle environment like PC? hell no...
I've ran the Minmatar Assault since Uprising Launch... I have everything around the suit maxed out... It isn't competitive...
This is the story with Assaults Currently period... With Amarr Exception purely because the 1vs1 Potential of a SCR user.
Allowing people to fit a proto Sidearm and have 150 more health isn't suddenly gonna change the suit to make it competitive... It will still be massively outclassed by the other options in DUST.
