One thing CCP should definitely do is to remove Ambush. I-¦m not talking because of tank spam or any other stomping that happens in the game but simply because it-¦s absolutely illogical to pay mercs to simply fight of other mercs without any target. And if you don-¦t clone them out after 15 mins they all go out like nothing happened and go for a Quafe? Why would someone mentally only halfway sane do this?
Seriously, who thought of this game mode?
Well, I thought a bit about this and as CCP probably wants to have a combat based game mode unlike Skirmish where you have to hack a lot, I came to some nice little ideas for Ambush 2.0 and more
1) Escort: As we can suppose that there-¦s space between districts everything has to be transported as well to trade within districts, get goods to space elevators etc. These battles should take place on these routes between the districts on a long but narrow map. The objective for the attackers is to stop a train or convoy by either destroying the locomotive, blocking it somehow or more (ideas are welcomed). Cloning the enemy out is not necessary but it simplifies the target. The defenders have to defend the train/convoy until it reaches the end of the map or clone the enemy out and kill all remaining troops on the field.
The Valkyrie variant of this game mode would be about the same but you-¦d have to defend a MCC taking off of the planet.
2) Heist: This game mode is set on regular outposts. The attackers have to conquer like 10 objectives that once hacked re-program a transporter to get its load to the MCC. The transporters should yield different amount of resources and thus ISK. The more transporters the attackers hack until the MCC has to take off, the more money the EVE corp gets. The defenders have to clone the enemy out and protect the objectives.
These are the two ideas that should replace Ambush
3) Infiltration: This one would be set in space and have a direct influence on EVE PvP battles. There mercs would be used to infiltrate enemy ships and make their modules malfunction. This would work as the following: The clones have to be brought to the ships via a sort of drone first. If they want to use vehicles or drones they have to be brought there via a drone as well. There they can move through the entire ship and have to hack modules in order to shut them down completely or make them overheat. Each module should have a varying number of consoles to hack depending on its size: Small should have only 1 but XL ones should have like 4 or 5. It should be possible to shut down even larger systems like the capacitor, the entire shields or even the capsule but these should take very long to hack and have like 10 consoles. In order to protect your ship you can use either drones or mercs. To use mercs you need a CRU (Low Power module) and clones on board, to use drones and vehicles you need to have them on board. You have completely secured your ship if either all enemy clones and mercs are eliminated or if their CRU on board of the drone is hacked and all mercs are killed. The mercs should be able to spawn on any CRU of the fleet within a certain range be it for defending or attacking. So if the defending ship has no more clones some of the attackers can spawn with a clone on another ship where they don-¦t have enough forces etc.
This one would be a game mode with real EVE impact but we probably won-¦t see it until DUST is on the next gen consoles or PC.

Sounds beautiful to me. As for why Ambush exists, it's a way for Mercs to make quick, albeit unreasonable, money instead of having to grind it in Domination or Skirmish. When Dust gains more gain modes, hopefully along the lines of what you thought of, it should be more fun
Until then, +1

+1 to you sire.
Regarding infiltration I think it should only apply to capital ships or bigger (titans). I like that the defence is based on modules that eve capsuleers have to fit on the ship. I am not sure I agree with the "jumping between ships" idea, but overall a good idea.
The question though is how these battles will be initiated? Will the attacking ship (carrying the clones) "arm" the warhead / drone beforehand to "fill" the battle, or will it start to fill when it is attached to the target ship? The same question applies to the defenders. If the capsuleers have a choice between defending drones or clones, I don't think no-one will ever choose clones due to the unpredictability of who you will get (I.e blueberries), how many, and at what time delay from the start of the attack.
Then comes problems with EVEs time delay during huge battles, where usually the capital ships and titans are used.
However, good idea, but perhaps use your idea for POS stations instead. |
