If a game makes it so hard to shoot so done that an entire squad fails to do so while they run I. The open, that's not a fun game. I say this as someone who started scout, switches to min assault during the scout dark ages, and am back to scout. I appreciate speed. But for flanking and moving to cover. Not for dancing while nobody could hit me.
This, this right here. Speed tanking should not be a thing for this exact reason, I remember those days and it was absolutely infuriating.
Speed, like profile dampening, should not replace the need for a real tank but should compliment it instead. Tank = shield and/or armor. Tanks come in two kinds, regenerative tanking (Minmatar/Gallente) or buffer tanking (Caldari/Amarr). Caldari need better base shield on their suits and Minmatar need the best shield regen rates.
Yes, it does exist to a degree in EVE. However it is more of a damage mitigator than a primary tank, and should it be the primary tank you are usually not there to deal damage but instead are applying some kind of EWAR. Are there exceptions? Yes, but generally that has been my experience. |

Because Annie and Calamity was competitive with an Assault, a Heavy and other scouts.. From the days when DUST was at the Most fun it's ever been.
And if your talking about Uprising they ran caldari logistic and minmatar suits... So invalid...
Speed tanking doesnt exist to a degree in EVE? wtf? lol that is the Vaga, Cynabal, Vigilant(fitted proper) Macherial.. I can go on foreever these are how these ships are fitted successfully in EVE for PVP. sooo?? wtf ..
Most people CAME TO DUST because of the whole concept that a Heavy was gonna be a brick and easy to aim at... Scouts where gonna be a glass cannon and extremely hard to aim at and medium suits where gonna be a middle of the road option...
Everyone LOVED that there was difficulty aiming from One person to the next as they would be fitted different have different roles and be moving at different speeds... It was aiming and engaging the player in moment to moment combat that made it fun and addicting.... not boring and redundant like it is now.
I am talking about Caldari logi's before they were nerfed actually. I specifically remember a squad of nyan san who had shield extenders and Kincats, they were almost impossible to hit, regardless of range. Speed tanking in a FPS is a dangerous thing because there is a very, very fine line between UP and OP.
Yes those are "speed tanked" but what some people are expecting is to have little to no shields/armor and still do well. Would you take a vagabond into PVP with no shield extenders or hardeners or armor plates? (if plates are your style) You are also talking about pirate faction ships, so clearly they are above and beyond normal ships. While some might compare our current "specialty" suits as T2 I see them as T1 because our basic suits aren't even worth wearing. The Vigilant costs somewhere around 245M in EVE and you get to speed tank, except in my opinion all we have in dust in the equal to a Thorax which is around like 10M. There is very few ships in EVE that an effectively have speed and gank with decent eHP while on a hull costing 10M. |
