Did CCP just put out a UI overhaul or does the game actually change things around when you are in HD? I figured it would provide a better picture quality but wow... I feel like a blind man who just had lasik eye surgery.
I ask because while the game was loading instead of it being the typical (You are entering a skirmish match and what that is) loading screen, it had a massive list of icons and what they meant, including Light and Heavy dropships, which that's cool didn't know they planned on making those, I knew medium ground are in the works, just not the aerial as they advertised icons.
I also ask because before I was using a 24" standard definition tv. People always spoke of Leader chevrons but at that definition let me tell you, you can't see them. Half the time I couldn't even see players, I just shot under their chevron.
Some examples of how big of a deal a 39" HD TV can cause:
Old TV: Couldn't see anything if it was 60 meters out but little blobs running about. New TV: I can see the lights of their eyes and see their animations as they run amok at 60 meters.
Old TV: Everyone had 1 chevron over their head. New TV: What is this 2 chevron crap?! Was this a thing?
Old TV: I aimed Forge guns at the back of tanks to try to hit the weak point and aimed around the chevron to hit drop suits. New TV: I aim the forge gun at the clear as day weak point boxes now that I can see them and aim a little in front of the now visible drop suits to kill them.
Old TV: CRUs were little diamond symbols and uplinks were what looked like a campfire. New TV: WAIT WHAT?! CRUs are a symbol of 3 generic people standing side by side and the uplink is a person standing in a star trek beam room?!
Moral of the story, if you haven't, you need to get a decently sized HD TV. I played pay day 2 and didn't see much of a difference other then screen size, but in HD this game adds all sorts of otherwise unseeable particle effects and lighting textures, not too mention being able to see what you are fighting is an extreme advantage. There are advantages to SDTV, especially better frame rate. You'll feel this most in CQC. But yes, for long range roles (sniper, forge, rail sniping, RR) rendering precision is more important and you're better off with HDTV. Personally I use HDTV simply because I can't stand the eyesore that is SDTV. |
