I didn't watch but the last thing DUST needs right now is for people to know it exists.
Maybe when the game actually runs smoothly, has things to do, and doesn't viciously **** new players without mercy, then and only then should they consider turning on the marketing machine.
Anything before that just does more harm than good. DUST has received MANY less than stellar reviews for many reasons

advertise now, advertise constantly, and maybe you'll have enough players around to do what's needed to make the game amazing. Marketing costs money, substantial money. You don't do it 'just because'. It would be a total waste of money for them to spend money on marketing until the game is compelling for new players to stick around. It's a wicked basic concept.
You need to maximize your returns, and that means you need to get people hooked. You don't hook people by punching them in the face a few times and taking their lunch money.
If CCP Rouge gets this ship on course, maybe we can see a strong holiday DUST 514 advertising campaign November - December with DUST promo items like a "statue" of a Heavy and all the random marketing stuff you get in those kits they send out. Push the artwork, the new EVE show that's coming out if it's around then, and have a game waiting for them that lets them grow at their own pace.
Time will tell.

Let it go for 10 years then come back ^ ^Harsh as Jung's post might sound, its sadly true. It seems that console players carry a different mindset than PC players. Console players seem to feel entitled most of the time. If the game beats them, they are upset and form petitions. The player has to want to come to New Eden. Enticing folks into the New Eden's universe only for them to get their asses handed to them is going to turn plenty bitter towards this game It's not about being beat, it's about there being no point to the game.
Basically the point is to get your ass handed to you because you are statistically inferior to your opponent until you achieve a state where you are now statistically superior to yet another batch of new players entering the meat grinder.
It doesn't make for very compelling gameplay.

It doesn't make for very compelling gameplay. Honestly, what are you talking about? I understand it but it doesn't make sense to me because that argument can be used in every FPS title that is out there that you haven't played since day one of its release. Hardly, most FPS titles with progression systems have matchmaking that tries to keep you in somewhat even matches, and plenty of FPS games have more competitive modes where everyone is evenly matched, statistically speaking.
DUST puts you at the bottom of the barrel with no SP and crap gear and immediately pits you against organized groups of players with millions of SP, top end gear, and usually over a years worth of experience.
There is no breathing room, no room for player growth. For every 10 players we get we may retain 1 masochist who somehow still sees DUSTs potential through all the crap and fights on through. Until we have a place for vets to go and stop giving incentives for them to stomp all over noobs, NPE will just be a pipe dream.
It's one thing for a player to choose to be roflstomped right out the gate, it's another thing entirely to force it upon them without giving them any say in the matter.

Still it doesn't make sense. When a new player can jump in BF4 and get stomped. A new player can jump in COD against players with prestige and get stomped. A new player can just start playing Armored Core and get rofl stomped into oblivion.
It was the same in MAG.
lol @ forced. You can turn off the PS3, ya know.
That's what I don't understand about your post. A beatdown is a beatdown. It happens in all FPS games. If you don't have it in you to tough it out then you just don't have it in you.
I made it through the fire, even without the speedbump before the beatdown they call Academy and I'm still here.
But again, my post was in response to the mass market advert question and why we shouldn't advertise it. It's not to get into the same old discussion yet again because I see things differently than you. For mercs who think like me, o7. To others who view differently, you're entitled to your opinion.
We have a low player count and bad player retention for a reason
