I'm not on the game atm so I forget the names of the mods; but, it's the low and high slot dropsuit scanner mods.
Do they along with the skills really do any good for a scout? Do the skills do any good without the mods?

But they are excellent modules, all 3 of them. Names Are: Precision Enhancer (High Slot) Profile Dampener (Low Slot) Range Amplifier (Low Slot)

I'd say go for Level 1-2 Gallente Scout, and then get 3 in ALL Scanning Skills (which requires 1-2 in Electronics, which never hurt anyone). That's what I have, and I am a passive E-War beast. Also remember that a Level 5 Gallente Scouts with 4 Range Amps will have a Scan Radius of 102.88 meters. That's bigger than your minimap.

scout with no mods but high skill IS actually useful. My go-to fit is a G-scout and it doesn't have a single scanning mod. Level 5 scout + profile dampening level 3 = I duck most scans as most players refuse to actually spec into active scanners simply because they want the FOTM.
Any scout will tell you that those are a scouts core skills and each of them should be at least at level three.

The skills effect all suits you might have and multiple the effectiveness of the majority of scout fits where you need to see them before they see you.
Only ones it doesn't help for me are sniper or tank outfits. Even my HMG heavy has an enhanced dampener so I can surprise opponents. |

Remember these skills do not affect the "Active Scanner Skill" they only affect the passive (minimap) skill. (Though profile dampening will make it harder for people with active scanners to scan you, and make it harder for you to be seen on the minimap.) |

speaking only from personal experience I've never found a use for precision enhancers. damps are good for new scouts and scouts that need to avoid proto scanners, but are really optional with high passive skill level if you're just running pubs. range extenders are exceptionally good in cqc because they allow you to get the jump on your opponent.
my problem with precision enhancers (the high slot ones) is that they're really only good for picking up mildly dampened med frames. they aren't worth the slots required to grab other scouts and they're only as good as your passive scan range. so to make a fit that is worth using pin points on you'd need range extenders too, you'd have to sacrifice your highs to pin points and your lows to range extenders. on a med frame maybe it'd be worth it (probably not, scan range on med frames stinks it would take a metric tonne of range extenders to compete with the most basic scout builds) but on a scout the high slots are too valuable.

I have a double precision enhanced (ADV) suit built specifically for hunting scouts. It in fact picks up low level scouts, dampened light frames, and removes uncertainty in dampened medium frames. Nothing is more powerful than knowing exactly where a scout is going.....and they don't know you're there.

I agree. I don't know why people doubt precision enhancers but think range amplifiers are so sexy. Who cares if you can see 100m but are mowed down by an even basic stealth medium frame or any kind of scout because you didn't see them on minimap.
You hardly need range extenders if you are fully skilled. Seeing 36m is usually more than enough.
