What would you do if there was a sudden resurrection of the dead, or infected cannibals? Go towards a shelter? Go towards the woods? Go north? South? Who would be there with you? What would you bring with you? What would you do if you met other survivors?
I'm curious to what other people would do in a Zombie Apocalypse

Art, your idea works if you only have to worry about infected.
Though, as any modern survival zombie book or city black out will show, people become increasingly violent the second authority slips. Which means that after your supplies run out you'd have to return to cities to look for supplies, and you wouldn't be the only one there. Also, while winter may save you from initial infected/zombies, the summer months would negate this.
So what do you do about other survivors and what about when your supplies are out?

Light blunt objects like hammer would be most useful, they are more durable and are unlikely to get stuck in a body. Not to mentions they can be found in any hardware store.
Blunt weapons tend to be very heavy and unwieldy. Also I would change that hammer into a sledgehammer, because there's less chances of you getting scratched because you will be farther away.

For a ranged weapon, I'll agree with Knight on a bow. Not only is it fairly quiet, you can make more ammunition.
I'd rather use a Tematlatl, or Aztec sling. You can never run out of rocks to toss, and with 660 ft of range you can't go wrong.
