Well, Eve Online is still here and competing well.
CCP developed Eve Online.
If only DUST shared basically any similarities with EVE, and also lacked competition like EVE did.
Different games are different.

World of Warcraft Guild Wars X Rebirth Of course, WoW and GW are dragons and fantasy compared to Eve's scifi, but they are technically mmo games.
You can't find what EVE offers in another MMO, or at least you couldn't
I can pick up just about any old FPS game, never mind the kickass new ones that are out, and find almost everything I find in DUST when it comes to moment to moment gameplay, but done with better polish.
Thank GOD this game is F2P or it would have sank a long time ago.

CCP developed Eve Online. You do realize EvE starts new players out in highsec, where no one is going to kill them. Sure its possible to, but no one would because newbs don't have anything valuable. Dust throws you to the wolves almost immediately. The equivalent in EvE would be to set up starting systems as a single highsec system in the middle of null security space. It doesen't matter because Eve has been plagued by the same kind of b!tching and of the same amount. Hence, there's no reason to take it very seriously. Determined and commited hardcore players will find their way to dust as they did to Eve. Whiny scrubs will leave, and I sure as hell won't miss 'em...
At least we don't have to worry about truly talented FPS players ever calling DUST home for very long, since it will never be taken seriously as an E Sport, and thus a competitive FPS for truly skilled players to compete and make $$$
