Hate the damage mods and OP weapons. Players skill up to use something when they want. Right now the cost of proto gear is in a pretty good place I think. If you're really good you can run proto all the time. If you're not you can't. It's the skill that makes the most difference. I love when your in a basic fit and you get hate mail for proto stomping. I run straight ISK fits. I have only 4.5m sp. I generally compete just fine. When I die, it's almost 100% due to an error on my part. 1v1 I beat full proto load outs in advanced gear. On occasion, I lose to basic load outs in advanced gear. Usually because my aim wasn't steady enough. The one thing that bothers me is that people can buy prototype gear for aurum. If you want to try a new basic fit without skilling into it, great. If you want to try an advanced model of a weapon because its different than the basic model (think assault CR vs basic CR), fine. But if you want to run prototype gear, earn it. Invest your sp and ISK. This is just my personal feeling on the matter, and I accept that it is unlikely ever to change. CCP makes a ton of money on selling proto gear, strictly because people don't want to take the time and energy to earn and invest the necessary sp. As such, I'm SoL, and I know it. So I will just take significant pleasure in hunting down and killing anyone in aurum-bought prototype gear, and knowing that I'm costing you real money. But hey, that's just me.

In a game like this, which deliberately has an economy as part of the meta game, players should be doing some basic maths as part of playing the damn game. Cost effectiveness of your dropsuits, ISK efficiency, etc. Then again, CCP should be adding these stats to the end-of-game screens. Basically, you should start skilling into and using proto gear when you are very, very rich. If CCP had built this aspect of the game properly, then only elite vets would have proto. But everyone races to get to the end of a skill tree branch ASAP, and start stomping. Then they run out of ISK... Desperate attempt to get BPOs

The EoM screen should help me plan my fittings better. It should tell me things like: The fittings I earned the most WP's in. The fittings that cost me the most ISK. The equipment I lost that I never used. Rate my fittings on a WP earned per ISK lost. Amount of ISK saved by being picked up by a needle. Plot a chart of net ISK loss/gain over the past several matches. There's probably a ton more bits of information that would be useful but that's a start. It would certainly assist new players and reduce their frustration level. CCP really needs to sell DUST on its uniqueness. Emphasize the economy, don't just repeat what all the other lobby shooters are doing!

If you want to have fun stop trying to compete just enjoy the game for what it is.
