How do you avoid them long enough to shoot them with large missiles on a gunnlogi?
Once you are on them it is almost impossible to dance around long enough with their RoF. It's harder at longer range. You have to get up on them but it is still hard to avoid that repeating blast.
Timing their hardeners and dmg mods going down is just to damn tricky with reload. Even a gunnlogi goes down fast with hardeners on to either a mil fit sica or soma. The hardeners go off before you can get that kill shot.
The rail turret is just too damn efficient at CQ when it is not supposed to be as a long range Cal weapon. It really makes missiles obsolete.
I'm tired of having to sneak up behind them or roll over them all the time. |

If I've got the jump on them with Missiles then ... Slap a damage mod on and hope I do enough with the opening volley to get them to retreat
If they see me coming ... I pre-emptively double Shield Harden to soak up as much damage as possible while charging through and hitting them with my damage modded volley. If i'm up against a Shield Tank then it's more or less a lost cause but an Armor Tank will pop if they haven't gauged the threat well enough. This is only really relevant when you've already gotten yourself into a range where you can engage them though, no point if you're 300m out and hes tagging you from a distance.
Ultimately the most effective way to take on a Rail Tank of any kind is to use another Rail Tank yourself though. They have high alpha to pierce through hardeners and break Shield Regen, high damage, high rate of fire, and 600m range. They don't have to deal with being useless against an entire segment of the Tanking population as well.

Ninja tanking is the way to go man. Given the new build for tanks is focused around "windows of opportunity", getting the first strike can mean death for that tank.
Run double hardeners, and a damage mod. I also drop a rep in one of the lows. Against a maddie, you won't have much problem. Unless of course, it is properly fit, in which case you will have to reload and kill him on the second volley.
Fire in short bursts, ensure every single missile connects. If it's another gunnlogi, with hardeners, back off and try to break the engagement. It's much easier to lose a tank than you think.
Most importantly, tactics.
In a missile tank, your main goal is to kill other tanks. The best way to go about this is by staying back and keeping to the edges of the map. Constantly scanning, looking for tanks. You must become like the predator, stalking from the shadows, waiting, watching. I even jump out to look over hills rather than driving my tank over it to look. In this way you never expose your tank, and if there is someone in range, you can take note of where he is looking. In this way, you will ensure that you get the first strike, or know which way to go to get behind him.
Remember, you do extra damage to a tank when striking from behind.

IMO. To counter an entrenched rail. you need a well equipped Gunnlogi/Blaster or a quick Maddy/Blaster. Blitzkrieg that ************ from the side and use your maneuverability advantage(if its a rail tank, YOUVE got the agility)to steam roll him by dodging those rails.
Hope this helps...
PS. Solo tanking is dead. Grab a fellow tanker

Granted, it's easy enough to say, but ambush that sucker.
Is it a stationary rail tank? If so, one thing to consider is sneaking behind him in a dropsuit and calling in your tank. I've seen a number of rail tanks who thought they had a "safe zone" get blown up by this tactic.
Just generally speaking, I play my rail tank like I play my scout. Ambush, skirt the edges, harrass, try to figure out what your opponent will do before he does it. Keep an eye on the map so that you can see where the enemy DS/Tanks are and figure out where a good place to intercept them is.
Do you know what I find the most natural response is from a tanker when ambushed? Move straight back. Do you know what's really fun? It's when there is an object like a light post/truck/something right behind them that they aren't thinking about. They run into it and get stopped.
Do you have infantry or tank support?
If infantry:
Bring them along for the ride if you can. Bring forge gunners who can jump out and provide additional firepower.
Or have said forge gunners in a LAV, have them flank/attack the enemy tank from behind while you distract/bait the other tank, soaking up damage from the front with hardeners.
If tank:
Again, one tank acts as bait, the other attacks from behind/flanks.
Use the environment to your advantage, and just have FUN. Let your imagination run wild with ways to ambush or counter other tanks.
Do not however get into a head to head shooting contest with a railgun tank if you have any range. Down that path leads only to pain and suffering, and victory to whoever has the better gun/hardeners/regen abilities. |

I'm tired of having to sneak up behind them or roll over them all the time. it's not that it's good at CQC it's simply that when it's on a shield tank you can turn the turret and gun making it better at CQC if you was to say use a blaster I don't care if it was an armor tank if you was to maneuver right you could still take him out and a word of warning don't become adjusted to stacking dmg mods or cowering behind mutiple hardners because CCP will change this as they didn't intend for people to be able to stack hardners like this and the dmg mod buff was just stupid on their part
trust me a railgun on a armor tank is harder to use at CQC and with the missles being way to overpowering towards armor using armor is sadly useless |

PS. Solo tanking is dead. Grab a fellow tanker solo tanking isn't dead I still pwn other tankers solo or even with gunners and I don't use more than 1 hardner and I rarely use my dmg mod fit well unless I'm facing like 3 dmg mods stacked tanks but even then my dmg mod tank only has 1 dmg mods |
