So I've never really been one for running proto-gear in pub matches. Sometimes I'll run a Scout gk.0 in a city or I'll use it going full E-War with 3 range amps and a dampener, but I really don't run my medium frames. The exception for this being my Proximity Mine fit where I just need all the slots to hold all there proxi mines and a nanohive.
After running a STD Laser Rifle for 2 days straight with some breaks in between to run STD Mass Driver, I just got fed up with Nyain San that were protostomping my Ambush team. It was the first time I ran the Laser Rifle since 1.7 came out. I had no clue how awful it had become when Rail Rifle out ranges you and the Combat Rifle out DPSs you in Optimal Range.
I started using a Gallente Logistics gk.0 with an Ishukone Assault Rail Rifle and 3 Complex Light Damage Modifiers.
I died around 3 times over 100 kills. My DPS was high enough that I could engage with a proto heavy/sentinel running a Boundless Heavy Machine Gun and win with minimal strafing and no cover within the HMG's optimal range. Really? Wow.
How do people do this all day, every day? Unless I was taking out the proto-bears it just wasn't fun.
Now that the weekend is over I'm going back to my G-1 Scout, M-1 Scout, and C-1 Assault with a STD Shotgun, ADV Nova Knives, and STD Scrambler Rifle respectively.

Fractured Road and Border Gulch are not a Shotgun Scout's friends on Ambush. You need to be inside a building, getting your team to stay there of the other team to come to you is virtually impossible. It seems the more you hate a map the more likely Scotty is to put you there.
Those maps are the reason I skilled into Scrambler Rifle, FOTM chasing and SP bloat got me a Rail Rifle :p

Meh, I play PC as often as I can. I can fight good people there that make me go 1:1, sometimes better sometimes worse, Never ran into any of the people I see there. Only "good" players I ran into were Nyain San, which just spam the most OP/FOTM weapon available and scanners. Mostly people in NPC corps. It's less a testament of my skill and more a statement of bad match making.
