Because I am too invested in New Eden to leave it.
Because I want to be playing the same character in 5 years that I am playing today.
Because I want to be one of those Vets that remembers how crappy this game was at the beginning and be able to tell these stories to the new players flocking to DUST 514 in 2020 who will not believe my stories because such an awesome game could not possibly have ever been as primitive as what I describe.
Because I want to be able to say I was there when it all started.
Because I play the meta game as hard or harder than I play on the field. Does BF have meta game?
Because I have never before played a First Person Shooter and I donGÇÖt know any better!

Although I play DUST in large part because of what I expect it to become, I stop every once in a while and ask myself: GÇ£Am I enjoying the game now, in its current form?GÇ¥
So far the answer has always been GÇ£YesGÇ¥ except when I was running a Swarm Launcher on a Scout suit at the beginning of 1.7. But then I switched to my Heavy and thought: GÇ£Oh, that is better.GÇ¥

I haven't done much in Eve since I've been spending so much time capping out in Dust, but some time I'll figure out how to make time for both games. EVE was developed by a new company with no experience. DUST was developed by a company with 10 years of experience with one of the most successful MMOs ever. "You should have seen what Eve looked like" is an excuse, and an excuse that doesn't fly. CCP had 0 experience building an FPS prior to DUST. It is competing with and compared to franchises (like Battlefield) that have perfected their shooter engines over many releases and many more years of experience. The Dev team for DUST is much smaller than those other AAA shooter franchises with much larger budgets. The development of DUST is following the same strategy as EVE and pursuing a pattern of constant iteration over a long time. There have certainly been some major mistakes, and I'm not excusing them, but DUST has come a long way since 1.0. 1.8 is looking to address much of the missing content, as well as address badly needed balancing changes. And here's the mentality, folks. This guy just doesn't get it. EVE doesn't compete with WoW and other MMOs. It appeals to a different crowd, and does well to get that crowd. In the same way, DUST shouldn't (cannot) compete with CoD and BF. Sure, CCP has no previous experience with FPS. You're dead wrong, however, to imply that their experience with EVE can't be translated to an FPS environment. It can be, and CCP didn't. Your mindset gives CCP a free pass for a sub par product (although it is improving.) You set standards low, and expectations even lower. "Well, it's a new game." "You should have seen EVE when it started." "CCP has no FPS experience." "The game might be good years and years down the road." You can't excuse CCP and then in the same post say you're not excusing them. Here's a decent article. I would say most of it is spot on. CCP has spent the past year focussing on the FPS aspect if DUST. The fact that they have never done an FPS before totally applies. Now in the coming year they are supposedly going to be focussing on the MMO aspects of DUST, and as you say, with 10 years of experience with EVE, they should be able to develop the MMO aspects at a faster pace.
I think CCP are quite a bit behind schedule due to having to shelve stuff like PVE in order to focus on getting the FPS to an acceptable level of functionality. In that, they have made massive progress, but it took waaaay longer than a company with a ready to go templet and FPS development experience would have taken.

Now there is a comment that I can get behind 100%!

Theoretically? 1.8 When all of the missing drop-suits and sidearms are added. Wrong. Sill missing pilot dropsuits, installations, and the other vehicles The Base Game, meaning the stuff that should have been in from Launch are: - 4 Racial variants of the Scout, Assault, Logi, Sentinel suits. (Pilot and Commando are expanded content.) - 4 Racial variants of the Infantry Rifle. - At least 1 specialty light weapon per race. (Swarm Launcher, Shotgun, Laser Rifle, Mass Driver) - At least 1 Sidearm per race. + Nova Knives - At least 1 Heavy Weapon per race. - 4 Racial variants of the LAV, HAV, and Dropship. (MAV, Fighters, and Bombers are expanded content.)
So after 1.8 we will still be missing: - Gallente & Amarr Heavy Weapons - Amarr & Minmatar LAV, HAV, and Dropship.
I would like to see Amarr and Minmitar Complexes, but I would not consider that necessary for release.

To this I would add: -Small/large laser/projectile turrets & installations -Minmatar/Amarr MCCs -Minmatar/Amarr RDVs -At least one large socket from each race -P2P market -Also fixing major gameplay bugs like glitching on terrain. That's reasonable in a beta, but it should be fixed in a released product. PC 2.0 is badly needed, but could be considered an expansion of the core. I would have to agree with you on the Small/large laser/projectile turrets & installations. I mentioned the vehicles, but forgot to include the weapons.
MMCGÇÖs and RDVGÇÖs do not effect game play. Yes, I want them for immersion reasons, but I would not insist on them for the game to be release ready. I would want them eventually though.
As far as the socket sets, I would just like to have the next two that they develop be Amarr and Minmitar. However I think the socket they have been working on recently is actually another Caldari socket.
P2P market I agree with.
I played World of Warcraft off and on from its first expansion to its third expansion. It had more terrain glitches than DUST has currently.
