I'm just getting into heavy suits (only level 3 advanced because I'm saving for Gallente heavy) and I've been killed really fast my a burst HMG heavy, so I'm wondering if you have the skill to use it, is it better than the standard HMG?

if you're good with it, then yes.
No idea on my guns right now. Getting majority to level 3 at least, then deciding.

I use it on objectives with doorways, otherwise i go down if more than 3 enemy. Reg hmgs i use in close quarters. Assault hmg if moving in more open areas.

A weapon that gattles with a burstfire mechanic just seems....strange.
I am part shovel, part man, full scout, and a little bit special.

It's better in situations with few targets due to higher DPS. However, the faster overheat means that if you're trying to hose down a hallway with logi support against 3-5 players, it's not going to be as good as a regular HMG. |

About how many 800 EHP advanced suits can I kill without overheating in rapid succession?

I prefer the regular, but that's because I like suiciding into 3 or more enemies at a time.
1 on 1 the burst is scary. Dr. Evil laugh levels of powerful.

@ OP It fires a burst of 45 rounds that is about 0.75s long, and you can't spam the burst like you can the CR. However, if you get most of the rounds in the burst on target, you can shred people with just one tap of R1. It also feels more accurate than the standard and assault variants because the burst produces no discernible kick like the others.
It's great fun and I had an awesome game the first time I tried it, instantly falling in love with it on my HMG alt (would never stain my true hands with such rusted filth), but ran into its limitations in another game. So give it a go in about 5 good (as in not on a team that getting stomped) games to judge it.
It's definately a fun variant that is different than just a "shoots a bit farther" or "does a bit more damage" like some weapon variants. It almost changes up your game completely. Almost.
I contribute nothing.

If you get the timing down the Burst is devastating.
If you donGÇÖt get the timing down you will find your gun pausing when you are on target and then firing just as your target strafes out of the way.
To make the burst effective you need to be very accurate and make every bullet count, otherwise it will overhead before you get the kill.
So, in summer, if you are accurate and have good timing the Burst HMG is a Monster! If you are not accurate and/or canGÇÖt get the timing down, then the Burst HMG can be incredibly frustrating.
One amusing attribute of the Burst is that when you pull the trigger it ques up the next burst, but if it was paused when you pulled the trigger it will not shoot until the pause in over. This means that in a stand up gun fight, even if your opponent kills you, you will get one last burst off before your body collapses, which in a close fight is usually enough to take them down too. I found myself killing the guy that killed me at least once every 3 or 4 games.

I mean I kill things with it, and then I kill things with the normal one, so I'd say they both have the ability to kill various things.

Yep pretty much... No one but heavys survive the second burst. :-) Also assault is good for shooting ppl across roads who think they have enough range to pit their rifle against u.
