I'm not sure if this should be here or in GD because I see QQ about it in both forums, but I'm posting it here.
I define Equipment Spam as the mass placement of Drop Uplinks and/or Nanohives in large quantities at a single location. This can be further broken down into Uplink Spam and Hive Spam.
Uplink Spam
Why do we Uplink Spam? We link spam because we want to provide a steady stream of reinforcements to the AO without having to go back and refresh the uplinks every minute or so. We place them in hard to reach places so that the enemy can't destroy them, obvious. For those of you who are wondering why uplinks seem to be magical clone appearing devices, it's because they're teleport beacons.
Hive Spam
Why do we Hive Spam? One word answer, fortification. Hive spam lets us fortify an area and create a strongpoint. We don't have time to constantly rep everyone in an AO, scan, resupply, and revive fallen comrades if the enemy is using continuous human wave assaults. So, instead, we fortify a location with hives in tactical positions and turn it into a strongpoint that provides resupply and some reps so we can concentrate on other things, such as reviving that sentinal, or scanning to see which direction the next assault is coming from.
Regarding the lag issue. False. I've run matches in all three modes full of equipment spam and no lag whatsoever. I've also run the same with no spam and everyone rubberbanding across the map. Regarding the complaints of being unable to reach enemy uplinks. We do that on purpose specifically so you can't reach them. It's called strategic thinking. If you can't reach the location because it's too high, try using a dropship, vipers are cheap, fast, and autostabilize.
In closing, what I'm trying to say here is that Equipment Spam is not a problem, it's a force multiplier if it's on your team and a roadblock if it's on the opposing force. It's not cheap, usually there's no supply depot nearby to change suits at, and it's not as easy as you think, packing all that equipment doesn't leave much room for ridiculously high HP and OP weaponry. We do this to help our team and you should appreciate it.
