1.10? I think you mean 2.0
Given the blog by CCP Rogue and speeches at Fanfest, it is likely that this year we will see more content than ever and more focus on the MMO than the "Lobby shooter" 1.9 needs to focus on upcoming changes and minor kinks before 2.0
Player driven economy gives everyone the chance to make lots of isk, not just district holders. So I think it's an integral part of the game. Building the link between DUST and EVE is also likely to take priority, so expect PC mechanics to change in the near future.

I don't expect 2.0 to come at fan fest at all, as much as I'd like to see it arrive then or even before then, I expect to merely see previews of it or insight into what's going to be in it. So I fully expect to see a 1.9 as Fox mentioned, with minor fixes to 1.8

The Game is an MMO.
First of all DUST is merely a portal, the same as EVE and Valkyrie, to a universe called New Eden.
When you think about it, there is a massive amount of people playing both games, that all lead to one event, there is a lot that goes into a professional PC Match. - Dust Politics - EVE Politics - Ships being constructed by hundreds of players - Dust spies/awoxers/thieves - EVE spies/awoxers/thieves` - Dust Corp Fighting - EVE Corps Fighting - Pirates - Ringers - Allies - Enemies - Unaffiliated parties who no have to decided which side they will choose. - Orbital Strikes There are a lot more moving parts than most people seem to realize. _________________ About Freedom of Choice.
While New Eden offers Freedom of Choice, it's not without consequences. You don't get to go back and time and right your poor decisions. No body forced you to skill into X and no one is forcing you to waste your current SP knowing more types of dropsuits and vehicles will eventually come, that is a choice you make as a player. Infact you were given 3 characters, one of them you could have used for gathering SP and stockpiling it, by running ****** militia suit. (not the most fun idea, but it was an option, an option a lot of people use in FW to basically get better than proto gear for free)
Most people who start EVE Online have no idea what they are getting into, the politics, the war, the lies, the betrayal, the friendships, etc. I certainly didn't know what I was getting into, I joined to do orbitals that was it, I didn't know I'd be in one of the biggest battles in EVE history and be a part of something that made international headlines, I didn't know that I would escalate civil war between two alliances, I didn't know that I would spy and sew dissent that made people stop playing the game, I never thought I'd exhort weaker players for made up currency, I didn't know that I'd have a bunch of people looking up to me, adding me on facebook, texting me, and hanging out with in real life, I didn't know any of that was in store for me. All I knew was I wanted to do orbitals for DUST
Dust's core game should not focus on different types of suits, weapons, and vehicles, while I agree that they are important. The core of DUST is the player driven community, How many people made planet fight club or were part of the history of it, how many people rose up and conquered planets against all odds, only to have them taken by those they deemed inferior.
DUST is not a game about cool guns and vehicles, those are great and all, but DUST is a game about a community created universe.

FPS Controls and Mechanics, have little to do with releasing new weapons and vehicles. That's more of a content issue.
As for Controls, a lot of people have made the switch to mouse and keyboard or modded ps3 controllers, there's nothing we can do about that.
As for Mechanics, TTK and Hit Detection could use a bit of improvement, and a few things could use balancing.
People usually don't die in this game due to poor control or mechanics, they usually die due to lack of teamwork and tactics on the battlefield.
I never claimed content will balance FPS Mechanics.
That being said, why do people still play Dust? It's no where near as good as a lot of other shooters, what keeps people coming back. Personally I believe it's the ability to create and influence things.
Here's what I do know, EVE saw a large player spike after making international headlines with the largest EVE Battle in history.
That being said, giving DUST the ability to impact the universe on a bigger level will certainly gain it the same level of attention.

If you could point out where I said, "I think player retention has nothing to do with controls and the way the game feels?" I'd appreciate it.
Also those reviews are from last year, before a lot of changes were made. I'm sure a lot of new player frustration comes more from getting proto stomped than anything else.
A common cry in any FPS is "I unloaded a whole magazine into that guy and he didn't die. WTF" That cry is probably multiplied by 1,000 in DUST where skilling into weapons, and dropsuits, fitting it with good modules, having repair nanohives will give you an advantage over some guy who thinks he knows how to fit his dropsuit.
If the game has less than 1% new player retention it is unlikely I am going to get my friend who tried it and quit to come back to it. While I think New player retention is important, VETERAN Player retention is even more so. PC needs to be fixed, there are hundreds of people bored out of their mind who can't compete due to the current state of PC Mechanics.
