Well, they all said, "Try it for a month," so I did, and here is what I've found. DUST could be one of the greats if not for one aspect. It's not game imbalance, improper funding, or even lack of advertising. No, this game's fatal flaw is the community it has attracted. All players in New Eden are interested in is finding a crutch, an 'easy button' if you will, something that will let them get to the top of the pile with the least amount of effort. Fortunately for us scrubs (if you are reading this you most definitely are a scrub, since people who value balanced, complete titles stay as far from here as possible) there are numerous crutches to carry us sprinkled liberally throughout the code. This is where we enter Super Scrubdom, where all the scrubs argue as to why everyone else should lose their 'easy button' but they should get to keep theirs. Funny thing is, this game is easy. I can use a broken controller with a bad R stick and still do okay. PART TWO NEXT POST |

There is no protostomping. This is a misnomer. What we have is one team who can hit the easy button first, then the other team gives up. One or two players on the losing side will continue to fight, but the rest go to the redline and mill about aimlessly. This is not because Buninhosilva or Falling Sunset has a proto rr or proto cr, but because the losing player would rather quit if they can't steamroll the other side. No matter how many times the dev team gets fired, the publisher will not be able to fix the players, which is the only real problem the game has.

I think your second post touched on the most important part. Too many times people just want to run to an objective, even if its 400m away. Unfortunately, most times the other team will call a tank or DS to go from A to B. Infantry (75% of this game) still thinks they'll never need to call in anything above a BPO LAV.
Initial deployment may be the ONLY time your team gets to call in vehicles and 'set-up'. Why not go all out from deployment? Instead people want to ease into the match...
I have 28mil SP, with 0 invested into vehicles; yet on deployment I'm in either a DS or tank. Adapt or Die.

dude, most players fight on if there is some chance of holding at least 1 objective but if the other team is unbeatable and nothing you can do to make just a slight difference there is no point. You have to accept a defeat when the battle is clearly lost, pack your bags and retreat(in my case call in a proto tank and ph*ck **** up). That is if Im running solo and dont have anyone on my team that knows how you point a gun.

That is if Im running solo and dont have anyone on my team that knows how you point a gun. You don't have to accept defeat. I don't. I keep trying, even when I know that the match is lost, I keep trying because if I can find a way around a certain tactic, I can use that experience in the next game where it is used and maybe that one will be a win instead of a loss.
If we had permadeath, then you're right, it would be pointless to fight on. But we don't and each death is an opportunity to learn and improve your game. Sure it gets costly if you keep using proto gear, pull out your militia gear, or BPO's if you have them and no loss of equipment. At worst you buy basic versions of your favourite weapons and modules, fit them and the loss is minimal.

Another very important lesson I have learned: Have dropsuit fittings for all occasions. Don't try to crunch numbers and cheese your way to 'on paper' superiority with a theoretically unbeatable build. This game does not work that way. This is what leads to the QQ. DUST isn't 'adapt or die'. It's more like 'stop trying so hard'. Actually learn from losing. If someone with a RR is holding obj A in a wide open area, pull out a MD, FG, SR, LAV, HAV, PC, or any number of things to counter him. I personally hate the rail up close and prefer the cr due to its superior hip fire. I also don't understand the fuss about tanks. I tried them, and don't like them. Yes, they kill you . Know what? It's a tank! It's doing its job. Never try to cqc a tank as infantry unless you are low on ammo and too lazy to walk to a resupply. But that's basically it. Those who get all butthurt over a free game they don't have to pay for will never be happy regardless of what gets a nerf. |

Nailed it. Best example: play Ambush. First team to land their tanks, wins. Unless, you're up against BIG BAD W0LVES. They know how to tank, like tank, tank. Not just spam super tanks, but flat out tank... Seen AE, Nyain, STB, FA, etc all get rolled by BBW and beaten at their own game. They all get humbled or just quit the match. Best pub corp in the game.

Assault Scrambler Rifle Gallente Logi, combo of hives, links scanner and repair tool on any one suit.
I run advanced even where i can fit proto.

I don't run back though, that is the moment when I become a butthurt-try-hard and try my best to KILL as many as possible. There is no way for me to around a certain tactic because of proto scanners and I dont have a scout :(

Lol, try playing PC matches and then talk about one side 'giving up' after they get beat down for the first few minutes. PC matches are ******* intense and really show how fun the game can be. Public matches are just practice for the elite who get to shoot cannon fodder. Also, when I'm playing solo in pubs I try to win, I really do, but when my whole team of blueberries don't know what to do with a null cannon while they're standing right next to it then I won't even bother pushing for anything else because I'm 100% sure that I'm unable to win this game on my own.
I quit, not because I give up, but because Dust 514 is about economics and nobody would be sensible enough to waste their time and lose money at the same time because their 'business partners' (if you will) are too stupid to do anything.
Love the sinner, hate the Sindromer.
