Some EVE players are having a war over control of prime real estate in space. The defending EVE side are in the process of building a stargate. The defenders have a Dust mercenary division who have bases producing clones on several planets on the nearest solar system, the proximity gives them a big advantage with transporting clones needed for defending the stargate in construction. An independent mercenary corp hired by the attackers invades the planets in the nearby solar system to take away the defending corp's clone transport advantage.
The structure of the battles is attack/defend, the defenders have no MCC, but the attackers do. Both sides have a commander, and the attacking commander pilots the MCC. For each district, the attackers must destroy the defense relays managing the defensive installations, then must move on to the series of control stations to conquer the district. In addition to the primary objectives, the defenders must also neutralize destructible anti-MCC cannons deployed by the defendersGÇÖ commander; such cannons include null cannons, laser cannons, railgun cannons, ion cannons, and flak cannons.
The first planet attacked by the mercenary corp is an ice planet full of mountains of frozen CO2, the defending mercs all use laser weapons because the extreme cold decreases the heat buildup of weapons that overheat. The attacking corp knew what they were getting into, so they do the same, but focus primarily on MTACs, Amarr assault dropships, and fighters fitted with laser turrets; they don't use tanks, MAVs, and LAVs because the frozen condition slows down wheeled/treaded vehicles. The attackers manage to take the planet after about a week of combat mainly because of their EVE-support, the defenders get bombarded with orbital strikes.
The war continues on to the next planet in the system, a gas giant with various floating platforms hovering over it; there is a large mining elevator extending down to the highly pressurized liquid hydrogen mantle of the planet, and extracting it for industrial purposes. The battle is mostly aerial with fighters with dropships acting as logistical support. The infantry mainly focus on capturing the objectives, and doing AV. The defenders eventually destroy their own floating platforms and the clone facilities with orbital bombardments to keep it from getting into the hands of the enemy; its a draw.

The final planet in the system is a molten rock bathed in magma. Volcanic eruptions on an hourly basis have made the sky black and full of constant lightning storms leading to the death of many. The defenders have learned from their setbacks from the previous 2 planets, and to match the attacker's MCC commander, the defenders have hired a better team commander as a ringer; a Dust player with a reputation for being an expert tactician. Both sides avoid using laser weaponry because of the increased heat buildup caused by the current hot environment, and both use special dropsuits specifically designed to to work in lava environments.
The attackers try to take the most important district from the start; the one with surface command center that houses the orbital artillery and the space elevator. The attackers rely heavily on cloaked scouts wading through the thick pools of lava to reach and capture objectives. While the scouts try to reach the objectives, squads of assaults, logis, commandos, and sentinels to do most of the fighting. The defenders are using similar squads of sentinels, logis, assaults, commandos, but also the crusaders/commands (previously announced, but not sure what CCP's final name for them will be); the command suits give bonuses to all teammates in their radius, like decreasing signature profile, faster reload, fire rate bonuses, and do debuffs to hinder the enemies. The scouts have had mixed success in capturing the objectives. The defenders use a few scouts of their own to infiltrate while cloaked behind enemy lines, and to mark coordinates for the MCC commander to deploy a drone hive installation right as the attackers are calling in a group of fast Minmatar tanks. The tanks were originally in called to push through and quickly attack the orbital artillery to take control of it, but the tanks are completely occupied with battling the drones, and are unable to provide offensive support at the attacker-controlled objectives. The commanders from both sides continue to deploy various installations like pieces on a chess board. The battle is decided by EVE support; despite the attackersGÇÖ larger fleet, the defenders maintained orbital superiority with the use of their orbital artillery, which has destroyed many attacker ships.
Other battles on the lava planet go similarly, and after a few days the attackers give up. They decide to cut their losses, and just use the planet they already captured as a launchpad for a full offensive. With the help of their employers, the attackers transfer their clones generated on the ice planet to the now completed stargate, and attack it from within. A full scale EVE battle is triggered. The EVE ship that acted as their transport is soon destroyed, but not before the mercs could penetrate the stargate in an attempt to capture it from within. Having foreseen the possibility of merc penetration, the defender had the stargate manufacted with s few CRUs inside storing about 500 clones in total. The defenders mercs spawn in, and the soundless battle within begins. Because of the near 0 gravity, the mercs traverse by use of dropships, and each dropsuits is fitted with a ion thruster pack for moving in 3 dimensions. Valkyrie pilots from both sides get involved in the action, and the Vakyrie fighters are provided with logistical support by dropships. The massive inner parts of the stargate start moving as its being activated to bring in reinforcements for the defenders, making the battlefield an ever-changing unpredictable mechanical landscape where the inner moving parts act as dangerous obstacles; several Valkyrie pilots crash to their fiery deaths as a result.
I donGÇÖt know how it ends, but it is a grand spectacle that will make New Eden history.

Serimos Haeraven wrote:This is great & all, but in the end it's just you sitting your chair imagining all of the wonderful things that "could be". Is it really worth typing 5 paragraphs up about?
And a lot of the stuff you have here is completely unrealistic as far as depth of current mechanics in games.. I mean even for the top games out there... not even talking about Dust. Well already typed it elsewhere for a different thing (because it could have won me ISK), but I just tweaked it a bit and wanted to share.
Could be done in 10 years IMO.

Godin Thekiller wrote:1: We probably won't have special suits for weather environments, just the same suit

3: There's sections of the warp gates where it is gravity, but that is few and far in between..
Otherwise yea. In Fanfest 2012 when they discussed far-off promises they can't keep, they mentioned exotic planet types, I kind of remember them mentioning variants of existing suits for those specific environments, but I could be remembering it wrong.
The name of the suit was chosen before CCP decided each suit should have racial variants, and the word crusader sounds like an Amarr name for a suit. It is likely they won't use the word crusader now since that is too Amarr specific, and the way they're doing things now is to have full dropsuit racial variants.

Squagga wrote:Kage, I normally like your posts. They're pretty much always great ideas that are well thought out and things I wanna do. I really support the growth of this game however ... the things I've learned most playing this game, studying it's older brother, EVE, and learning about how CCP works is, their full of broken promises. All of the things you've said are ideas that either you or, us the community, have come up with and it sounds like things might be GLORI@S somewhere between five and ten years from now. I wish it wasn't true, but what can I say. I'm a realist Guess I really should put a disclaimer that I don't expect any of this any time soon, I don't get why people assume I'm naive enough to think its going to happen in less than 5 years, in fact this is how I see things being like in 10 years.

ps cold temps speed up cooldown of laser weapons is just awesome I have no idea how Amarr HAVs are meant to work, but the Fanfest concept art did look kind of hovery. I hope they hover.

I hope they hover. hover means not disabled by snow and maybe enhanced by lava so while amar light weapons would over heat faster and be at disadvantage they're vehicles could possibly benefit Yeah, I knew what you were getting at when you mentioned the hovering, but its too early to tell if they do or not considering the concept art we saw wasn't exactly very detailed.
