When I am within 5m of someone and a I fire at them, invariably my thumb twitches when I contract my index finger and I end up meleeing instead. This occasionally happens when I am lining up a shot from farther away, but it is so common when in very close quarters that I had to abandon the Shotgun all together.
Is this a common problem, or is it just because I am old and my tendons are shredded and scarred from years of Rock Climbing?
Any suggestions?
I think that if the top of the joystick was a concave dish so that my thumb could catch the rim to control it, I would be able to use a lighter touch, which would probably help. But the friction surface grip on the top of the joy stick means that I have to apply downward force just to keep my thumb in contact, and this makes it very easy to apply too much force.
I wish there was a way to turn off the melee option all together. In 13 months of playing DUST I have never had a single melee kill. I think I could live without the melee option!

Happens to me all the time. Makes me feel like an incompetent noob. Hate to think of the number of fights i've given away because of it.
If we could remap i would.

It happens for me when I tilt the thumbstick too far in one direction or another. It actually seems that the game then confuses the melee with the fire button when turning at max speed sometimes. The reason seems to be that when you turn the thumbstick it kind of ignores the fact it's being pressured inward a bit till you hit the trigger, I guess..
Don't know exactly how to reproduce it, but I've done it so many times myself.

No my problem is the sights issue. When you try and look down the sights to shoot it fails to sight in, to only fix this is to switch weapons to fix this.

I had a controller that I used for Skyrim, where you have to hold down L3(?) to sprint, and it wore out the padding under the analog. After a month or 2 of Dusting it would just go haywire and do anything but what I wanted, usually reload. I submitted a few Help Tickets and even bitched about it on the forums before I realized it was on my end. New controller, no problems. Well, except when I'm wireless and the battery is <50% - then all bets are off.
GÿàI'm in no way suggesting that this is your problem, just an anecdotal tale of other dumb **** that happens.

This used to happen to me all the time, along with a lot of other random and very annoying things that got me killed quite often. Got a new controller though and I haven't noticed any of those previous problems. It stinks, but if you want to avoid these things, you'll have to fork over $54 bucks for a new DS3 >.<

You need you some of these (if you want concave sticks): http://www.kontrolfreek.com/fps.html As a side effect, they'll hugely improve your aiming precision.
I can't play without them ever since I tried it. It's worth the $10 |

Happens to me from time to time. Thought it was due to switching to ADS and fireing too closely together, or in the wrong order. Might just be my imagination though. |

Also, I was happy to notice that the tops of the DS4 controller joysticks are concave.

When I spot an enemy in my peripheral and I turn and shoot (shotgun).
I'm a galscout, so seeing an enemy visually before I've spotted them on passive, I'm afraid to say, scares the [insert quaint humorous word here] outta me - and that gets worse knowing its probably another fricking scout. There my worst enemy, I feel safer around tanks...
So yeah, the panic goes straight into my right stick.
Though a friend of mine watching the screen saw me do this once and thought it looked kinda cool/was on purpose...
You probably don't know me. But next time you get gunned down or exploded by a Valor scout...check the name.

yup and its why i abslutly hate melee being on the R3 stick. really f***ks me off and i wish i coul dchange just that without havign to change theo whole control type. the 'field of battle' layout is great for assault but anythign other than the standard layout for a logi is plain awful. wish i could just change melee and crouch around **hint hint ccp**
