At the moment I've maxed out the majority of my essential core skills and gained access to complex hardeners and the like.
With that done I've now started to spec into turrets. Gaining access to the Large Prototype Blaster, Rail and Advanced Missile Turrets. The issue that I'm having is that is seems essentially to have a CPU mod occupying one of the low slots of my tank. Just for me to be able to be able to fit a damage mod and scanner.
So my question is this. Do the turret optimization skills make enough of a difference to get rid of this CPU enhancer or is it just basically a bit of an SP sink at the moment?
Thanks in advance for any replies! |

dont ever put fitting modules on madrugars or somas. tank over DPS is the way of the madrugar. You may have to sacrifice part of your fitting if you want a better tank.

sacrifice your high slots and see what you can fit in the lows then go for module optimization, then fitting op. seeing what you can do CPU and PG wise once you can fit your lows then play around with your high slots.

It all depends on your fit obviously but assuming you use Plate, Hardener, and Repper you can can fit an Ion Cannon with a Basic Damage Mod, 2 basic armor mods and one advanced armor mod if you train every optimization skill to lvl V. You'd even have room left of for a Basic Fuel Injector.
But that's a ton of SP just to use that turret. The Proficiency Skill is much more useful than the actual Proto Turrets at the moment. I guess an argument can be made for proto rail guns in certain situations and maybe missile turrets but as for blasters stick with the Neutron Cannon.

Thanks.
Appreciate the info! Just earned over 12.5mill SP so my core skills are good. Just to tighten up turret skills and find corp. |

Do you guys bother with small turrets on your tanks?
I'm not a tanker, but if you have room to throw a small turret on and can find a good FG buddy, it's useful just as a seat so they can ride around with you. When hostile tanks show up, assuming they're not railing from 500m away, it gives you a huge ace in the hole. No one expects a double Cx dmg mod AFG to suddenly appear out of your tank. |

Do you guys bother with small turrets on your tanks? If I have room I'll throw one on there. The extra DPS can really come in handy if you can find a gunner but I won't sacrifice my fit for one.

Thanks again.
I guess at the moment it would better to reduce the CPU/PG cost of the damage mods and turrets, then worry about the small turrets. |

One of the better fits I've heard of is 2 complex hardeners an ADV repper, and I believe the highs are a scanner and nitrus. I am a shield tank so I don't armor tank too much. Neither tank allows small turrets if you want to run all complex.

Otherwise it's better to go with a plate, hardener and repper because otherwise the alpha will take you out.

And that, right there, is why the vehicle rebalance has failed. "Waves of opportunity" that is not. |

Yeah I have both the active timer and cool down skills to V, so I might try that. Perma running them would certainly make me a lot tougher all the time. |

Pretty much what others have already said.
Low-Slot Modules should be your priority, since they maximize your endurance and persistence in the ground. The most efficient way to use them is in a guerrilla warfare style.

So how many AVs will it take to take out a perma-hardened tank? How many FGs?
Because it wouldn't suprise me that is is greater then 16 Avers and a squad of FGs. |

Using an Ishukone Assault FG, proficiency V and with one complex damage mod it would take 5 shots. DIdn't figure AV grenades because it would be a lot.

So a squad of maxed out forge guns with a hit rate of 83% could take out a single perma hardened tank.
Or a squad who have lined up and take a single casualtity might tank down the tank before it trundles away. |

This video is outdated, but shows an awesome Marauder HAV in action. Some principles may still apply.
As far as you OP question on turret optimization skills being able to get rid of the fitting mod, just do the math. I can do it sometime tomorrow when I feel like getting on the game to check values. I'm pretty sure Turret Optimization is a 5% reduction per level to CPU/PG, but I'm not sure, and I have no idea what the base CPU/PG values are for a Madrugar or the turrets you'd use.
