the number one cause of ADS loss is using them for things they were never intended.
aka your not the assault suit of the sky, the ADS is for clearing out the high ground and then conquering it for yourself, if you own the high ground then theres no more need to be in the air... grab a RR or LR and enjoy your acomplishment and dont forget your uplinks.
if you get kicked off the high ground by a dropship squad or another ADS, then you can always pull your ship out again.
do this and you will lose 90% less dropships and suddenly its amazingly profitable. also you will enjoy lots of solo orbitals and the occasional solo 2 orbital game |

Maybe this is how I will treat mine. I do run transport with it occasionally. I just hate running Myron transport and half the time sitting in the air doing little gaining little wp. The ADS makes it possible to cover my troops.
my methods are simple, use a virper at the very start to claim the high ground, i deploy 4-6 strategic uplinks in my favorite high ground positions, sometimes with redundancy most of the time without. its very different to uplinks spam in that a single orbital is unlikly to take out more then 1 of my uplinks. :P
then after i claim the high ground if there was no resistance i recall the viper and start killing off the poor souls on the ground with my RR or LR neither of wich i have skilled particularly high, if at any point someone clears out any of my uplink spots i replace them with either a new viper or the python if they have uplinked it to high hell and are using the high ground.
really i only use the python for clearing out roof dweelers, the moment i face any real resistance i recall it to continue being a roof dweller myself.
i know this seems like a very different idea of what pythons are used for, but honestly as a new pilot this is the best way to not go bankrupt, if your good at providing uplinks that people WANT to spawn on then your going to have alot of 4000+WP games all of a sudden, and the rooftop advantage with a long range rifle and some ammo for your fellow roof dwellers gets you a decent amount of kills and an even greater number of assists (i love assists, more orbitals for teh team or squad as a whole that way wich is why the LR is awesome for this)
expecting to pull out a python and stay in the air all game is kinda pushing ti and evcen the best of us dropship pilots cant do that reliably so you new guys are nessesarily having a hard time trying to copy the kind of insane manuvers nessesary to say, face off against 2 forge gunners and kill them without any hardeners. this gives you a way to use the python and not break the bank while adding tremendous utility and help to your team.
since i started doing this (i call it Arial logistics) i have made profits hand over fist and even against some of the most pubstompy teams it gives your blues a reasonable foothold to actually fight back instead of ending up redlined.
arial logistics wins games, as a dropship pilot your job is to control that high ground and manage the logistics of the high ground. this is what i get paid to do in PC. |

If assault dropships arent meant to do **** (roof clearing is not a role and a regular dropship does that) then why do small turets have such hih ammo and the python skill gives ammo
if roof clearing isnt a role then i wouldnt be useful in PC now would i?
its not so much roof clearing, but the control of the high ground. clearing out the high ground of unfavorables is a piece of that, but as with any "logistics" role theres alot more then killing, uplinks are a big part, ammo for forge gunners and other super long range types (mass drivers, RR, and LR). replacing uplinks that have been cleared out by the reds.
the python is just BETTER at this due to you not having to get out of the ship to kill uplinks and roof dwellers, and if your not an ace pilot that can dodge railguns like neo from the matrix then your going to be spending alot of time in a burning wreak against any team that has figured out the redline is awesome.
believe it or not every PC team at the high levels of play has a dedicated dropship pilot that fullfils this role.
and every team has a specialy dedicated railgun to prevent the other team from fullfilling this role. |

Really? Who pays you. If you get paid to do that, I could either join you, or fly for you. We each can take links. I get high ground and then I fly low for strategic placements at ground level for you to place your set. It is much better to fly around a dedicated linker than to hop out yourself ( atleast at ground level ). O vice versa, I have proto links.
Fatal Absolution, and if you hadnt heard, PC is on lockdown so there isnt exactly any fighting going on right now. (this is my alt BTW....) in PC you really cant afford the loss of manpower to carry an uplinker... nore a gunner, its too many eggs in an easily railguned basket, your high priority target number 1, AE always dedicates a railgun specifically to railgun me down and do nothing else all game (usually psychotic shooter)
im also known for crashing my dropship into the middle of poorly defended objectives and taking them ninja style (my uplink suit is minmatar logi with 3 25% hack modules on it)
in PC money is no object you get comped for your dropship losses so crashing into the objective (bonus points for landing on someones face) is alot more effective then dropping someone off
the secret is diversity, i carry with me ALOT of useful things, i am the one who clears the high ground with missles, im the one who takes it with uplinks, defends it by ramming dropships out of the air with militia ships, and in a pinch my hacking speed is insane and i will crash **** into things if it means we can take some ground. |

Huh. I suppose. I still wouldn't mind trying out new things. like flying you to ninja hack and still maintain aerial dominance. So in a way, they have you on the ground for manpower which eliminates having two people air bound. After you do your damage and die I could pick you up at high ground for continuous objective harassment. Now, I don't want to sound cocky, but I would frustrate Psy Shooter. I will get better at dive landings faster than he will learn to track me at that speed. I love flying, it's what my dad did in the military. I have a knack for it and the passion to keep trying new tactics to boggle the minds of redrails. As of March locking is out btw
im guessing you dont have alot of PC experiance.
anythign you can do with 2 people in a dropship can be fandangled down to 1 with the exception of redline tank hunting.
its ALWAYS better to have that 2nd person dedicated elsewhere, with the exception of having 2 seperate pilots doing it in 2 dropships :P
just a note i only ever get to fight AE and nyan san, since anyone else we are schedualed to fight inevitably hires one of those two to sub for them :P so if you dilike fighting against them in pubs... your going to hate fighting 32 of the best players in the game over and over again. becasue not only do i only ever get to fight those two corps.... but i only ever get to fight the best 16 people those corps have to offer :P
if you at all think that you are going to stay airborn in a PC game, while actually doing more then getting a few cheap kills, your unfortunatly mistaken, any moment your at the flight cieling is time not doing your job. |

Good points. But I am not alone either. I am with teammates of equal caliber and as my strongest roles are proto reppin and links, my ability to down them is less important than keeping my mates alive. I don't mind playing against any corp as long as I am on a team that brainstormed about fits and tactics before the match.
Getting shot down is part of being a pilot. During the last event I lost 30+ ADS while learning to fly and practice certain maneuvers. But I learn from every encounter. I am like water, I will fill the void the enemy leaves and be a pressure that disrupts their tactics.
But there is only one way for me to prove it. Have a channel I can join?
i am but a merc, and a simply employee of FA... most people in FA are hand picked in some way or another and SGT snuggles is their primary pilot ATM so im pretty sure you have to beat him out for the job :P |
