I can hear you saying: But, but, BUT!!! my PROTOFIT costs 150K or MORE!! Yep!! But, but, but my ADVANCED fits cost 50K or MORE!!
Yep!!
Solution: Do not play this mode and leave it to NEWBERRIES!!! A basic or militia fit runs from free to 5k.
Nothing stops you from running expensive gear but most likely since the payouts will be small this will force those who insist on running only expensive gear to reconsider and perhaps make them go play in other modes??

It is certainly an interesting way of handling the new player experience. Clever but I do not know how much it will help. If it is a high destination point for newer players, those running mostly militia or standard suits, you will have jerks that will drop a 250 grand tank in the match. Without players that know what they are doing, it would just be a militia killing field. Similarly to that problem, you will have those that still run full prototype in squads to "defecate on the newbies" regardless of payout. There are people with hundreds of million of ISK so getting 40k rather than 300K won't bother them in the least. Plus, it would split the already fairly small community. |

this would increase proto stomping. you could go into this mode most definitely one shooting peeps. very few people who use proto in pubs care about the isk payouts. i'm not even in a PC corp, i'm a logi, and i still use proto all the time. |

What if this new battle mode was set up lore wise to be the next training ground for academy students. Any high SP/WP player that entered the match would be put in with various "challenges" to help balance the battlefield. Something like
- AA is automatically turned off - Aiming reticule is removed - Enemies only show up with a red chevron over them, and do not display a health bar - Automatic bleedout upon death
Not every one of these changes has to go in, but maybe something to this effect could make trying to dip into that arena not very comfortable

I actually like this. It fits with the whole risk/reward aspect.
As far as guys with hundreds of millions of ISK, they can either squander it on trashing newbs and having constant boring redlines or they can have real competition and payouts at the higher levels. Also, remember that the player market will significantly increase the cost of high tier gear.

You would have people go in there with their proto suits, stomp the hell outta the people who now REALLY can't afford to run higher tiered gear, and not care about it in the least.
Some stompers would be okay with losing 3 suits, and only getting 40k ISK so long as they can go 50-3.

QFT, it seems like a good idea at first, but it'll just become the go-to place for padding your K/D. |

The troll effect still happens and plus, it is my belief that the newberries won't learn any strategies. So prevent the rude awakening for a nice Disney channel match up in favor of keeping newberries happy? How about just a mode that excludes the proto suits that will allow the newberry to still have a lil challenge on the field?

What if we had a "Gladiator" mode that was opened up after the academy. It would work like this:
Each player is randomly assigned four militia suits, each with a randomly assigned load out with a basic designed focus. So a player might have a MLT Caldari Heavy with a ScR as their AI fit, and a Minimitar scout with REs and a PLC for AV work. Some players would randomly be assigned prefit militia vehicles, and the game mode would have some formula (likely player made) that balanced the number of AV weapons and vehicles needed among the opposing team to equal the threat.
The game mode would not have any ISK payouts, and would have a reduced WP payout. That way noobs can practice often and have something to show for it, while Vets can play here for fun, but would be better served in other game modes where they can earn more.
The point of this game mode would be to allow players to experiment with new and otherwise unused module combinations and see what happens. The beauty of it is that in all random militia suits, the only difference between players is passives (to a much lesser extent than regular pub matches have) and player skill.
Vets could hop in and use their knowledge of the game to do well, but everyone's in a random militia suit, so if they do well, they win something. New players are all in militia suits, so there is no penalty to losing. You just get a live battlefield to test things out.
Thoughts?

That's actually a pretty great idea, though I cringe at the idea of being given a random pre-set fit, given CCP's track record with creating fittings (when was the last time a "featured fitting" was actually half decent?). |
