What if this new battle mode was set up lore wise to be the next training ground for academy students. Any high SP/WP player that entered the match would be put in with various "challenges" to help balance the battlefield. Something like
- AA is automatically turned off - Aiming reticule is removed - Enemies only show up with a red chevron over them, and do not display a health bar - Automatic bleedout upon death
Not every one of these changes has to go in, but maybe something to this effect could make trying to dip into that arena not very comfortable

What if we had a "Gladiator" mode that was opened up after the academy. It would work like this:
Each player is randomly assigned four militia suits, each with a randomly assigned load out with a basic designed focus. So a player might have a MLT Caldari Heavy with a ScR as their AI fit, and a Minimitar scout with REs and a PLC for AV work. Some players would randomly be assigned prefit militia vehicles, and the game mode would have some formula (likely player made) that balanced the number of AV weapons and vehicles needed among the opposing team to equal the threat.
The game mode would not have any ISK payouts, and would have a reduced WP payout. That way noobs can practice often and have something to show for it, while Vets can play here for fun, but would be better served in other game modes where they can earn more.
The point of this game mode would be to allow players to experiment with new and otherwise unused module combinations and see what happens. The beauty of it is that in all random militia suits, the only difference between players is passives (to a much lesser extent than regular pub matches have) and player skill.
Vets could hop in and use their knowledge of the game to do well, but everyone's in a random militia suit, so if they do well, they win something. New players are all in militia suits, so there is no penalty to losing. You just get a live battlefield to test things out.
Thoughts?
