The lights were dim in Denak's quarters as he sat in the center of it, sitting with legs crossed over each other, and a gentle smell of incense filling the room. He was wearing a simple brown garb as he seemed to be deeply focused on something, remaining perfectly still and remaining silent, the only noise being the silent hum of the reactors on board the space station. That all was interrupted though when a beep echoed throughout the room, eminating from his NeoCom interface on the desk nearby. For a while Denak just ignored it, continuing his contemplative moment until the NeoCom beeped again, then again, and again, and again. Finally, he was forced to interrupt his meditation and see what was going on.
'A new contract, from CONCORD. Interesting.'
Denak sat down on the chair of his desk and began reading through the details of the contract, while a household drone emerged from the wall, cleaning up the ashes and other dirt left from his meditation, buzzing and whirring about.
'To fight Blood Raiders. A great reward is given. How interesting.'
The contract was still very vague, with nothing but the order to jumpclone to the designated location after accepting it. It could have been a scam, or maybe a trap, but Denak rarely gained offers for these kind of contracts. The reward was promised to be great as well, it was definitely worth looking. Even in the worst case of a trap, he would be one clone short and all the wiser.
After the household had retreated back to its hole on the wall, Denak accepted the contract, scribbled a few notes into his notepad and headed off for the location.
******
Cloning, respawning, reanimation, rebirth. Whatever you call it Denak had done this so many times during his career that getting used to a new body took almost no time at all as he entered the odd room. The covert technology did seem familiar, which only made him wonder more what was exactly going on. There was no turning back anymore the moment he jumpcloned here.
Instead of wearing a combat suit, Denak arrived on his leisure clone. It didn't stand up quite to a dropsuit, but he wasn't exactly short either. He greeted the other mercenaries in the room with a shallow bow of his head, and upon recognizing Kador, he muttered out a quiet: "Namas", to greet him. Then he set his eyes to the uniformed man behind the table, remaining silent and waiting for the man to speak first.

Denak leaned against one of the walls a little farther off from the group, investigating their attire carefully and remaining silent throughout. He wasn't really interested in socializing at the moment more than he was waiting for the small CONCORD man to speak up and tell what was going on, and his attention was mostly focused on that man. When Heathen addressed him and introduced himself, he simply replied with another bow of his head to Heathen's direction, fixing his gaze back to investigate the room and the CONCORD officer standing behind the desk.
However, when people began introducing themselves, Denak glanced back at the group gathered, mainly Ermac this time. "Denak. I get paid fairly well for this contract and that is all I need to know", he replied, eyeing the group once more before looking back at the CONCORD officer. Kador was the only one he knew beyond just a name, and getting to know the rest right now wasn't in his interests, he would be familiar with them later regardless.

Seeing Kador offering him a wave and greeted with an Amarrid accent, Denak turned around and greeted him once again, this time with a deeper bow and a nod of his head. After straightening himself up again, he focused his attention on Kador for the time being, until the unresponsive CONCORD officer finally decided to speak.
"This contract sounded like it needed at least someone professional", he replied as a dry joke, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned back against the wall. Personally, he wasn't much concerned about the dangerousness of the contract, being clone soldiers gave them an edge, and the ability to come back from the dead.
"Where is Satja? You rarely if ever leave her by herself", he also asked after a moment of pondering, it was indeed odd to see Kador without Satja, considering how attached to one another they seemed to be.

Denak could already anticipate them being jumped back to another CRU as the short and pithy briefing ended, closing his eyes when he felt his consciousness slipping away. Upon waking up in his old body, the familiar feel of his Gallente 'Black Eagle' Scout G/1 suit, a wave of relief washed over him. Knowing he could select his own fits made him more comfortable after the alarmingly vague briefing.
Feeling a set of hands exploring his body as he was finished reanimating at the CRU, Denak assumed it was a tech checking his vitals, remaining perfectly still throughout the process. Even with his eyes closed, his suit was still powered and sending sensory information of his surroundings. The tech's heartbeat was at an average of 150 beats per minute, his pupils were dilated, and his fingertips were sweaty, he was obviously afraid.
And to the tech's unfortune, the mere act of Denak suddenly springing to life and moving past the tech without a word said, making him jump suddenly and take a step back from Denak. Looking around, Denak saw how the other mercs were treating their techs, and compared to them his tech was getting off easy. Not like he cared much, focusing on getting the optimal fits to fight the Blood Raiders was a more important task.
Activating the holographic interface on his arm, the NeoCom appeared on his visor's Heads-Up Display, selecting his fittings and the market to begin browsing through them and selecting the most optimal ones. He knew the Blood Raiders preferred armor and laser weaponry like the Amarr, but were much more aggressive in their tactics. He didn't know if he was going to have a logistics in their group backing them up, so he started selecting fits preferring armor plates and repairers, sending his buy orders to CONCORD:

Just as Denak was about to head off into the bays, his HUD notified him of a new person reanimating in the CRU, stopping dead on his tracks to see who it was. He didn't even have to look at the information on his HUD to know it was Kador, kneeling down and muttering out a prayer for the techs standing in front of him. Instantly his dropsuit computer began deciphering the Amarrid speech, tracing its origins and translating it into Intaki for him.
"a+éa+¦a+ía+Åa+¦a+¦a+ôa+û, a+áa+ña+éa+¦+¦a+Ña+öa+¦ a+¦a+ô+ó+¦+ªa+¦"
Was displayed into his visor, displaying the full passage for him after Kador finished and began setting his buy orders. Advanced sensory systems were something Gallente excelled at, and it helped Denak understand the surrounding world a little better. For a while Denak stood farther off, his sensory systems analyzing Kador's dropsuit, his weaponry and the passages he was praying. The slightly distorted sound coming through the speakers sounded odd. Even in battle, voice communication was fed directly from within the dropsuit, without distortion added.
As he pulled out the Pax Amarria, scanned by his visual sensors, Denak decided to finally speak up and step forward.
"...a shield for the faithful, Brought unto men by the Angels, As a guiding light in the darkness", he spoke, completing the passage for him, before adding: "I hope I am not interrupting."
In contrast to the highly decorated and beautifully carved patterns of Kador's suit, not to mention size, Denak's seemed much smaller and simpler. He was still a towering giant compared to a normal man, but next to a Commando suit, his scout suit was slender and shorter. Friction dampening materials muffled the sound of his movements, and the single sleek black color made him blend well into the dark contrasted wall behind him. If it was sufficiently dark, the only things visible to the naked eye were the three green slits on his helmet.

Denak observed Kador curiously as he stood up to his full height, the difference in size between their dropsuits coming very clear right now. His arms looked like they could crush a dropship, and the thick armorplating covering his entire frame made him appear like a one-man army, a true force to be reckoned with.
In comparison to Denak's own suit, he almost seemed like a midget among the clone soldiers. Armor plating was minimal in favor of installing servo motors and increasing the mobility of the suit in general, and unnecessary bulk was removed in favor of an advanced computer to power sensory systems.
When Denak's choice of suit came in question, he remained silent for the moment, simply pulling out an odd looking device from his utility belt. It seemed like a mixture of an active scanner and a repair tool in shape, sporting just two buttons in the handle, on and off. The purpose of the device soon came into realization, as activating it made Denak's frame shimmer. The shimmer intensified, making Denak appear more and more like a poorly constructed hologram, until he disappeared entirely.
Many moments passed with absolutely nothing seeming to happen, leaving Kador by himself with his equipment. Then without much warning, Kador could feel a bump to the back of his head. It was Denak, who had went all the way to the armory, picked up his gear, returned to Kador and walked behind him to point his shotgun to the back of his head, all in the span of minutes. He could have rambled on for hours about the technicalities of the cloaking device and its uses, but a physical demonstration explained it better than any amount of words could have.
"What I lack in protection, I make up in utility", was Denak's explanation as he shimmered back into view, lowering his weapon and letting it rest against the ground, leaning against it slightly.
Swung behind his back was the Black Eagle assault rifle, custom built by Duvolle Laboratories to be used in conjunction with the Black Eagle scout suit, as was the shotgun. The reason for Denak to be wearing a dropsuit associated with an infamous wing of the Federal Intelligence Office, was a personal one, although the ability to carry two light weapons at once was definitely a plus.
"I have years of experience in infiltration and improvisation, excessive armor just impairs my effectiveness as a scout", he added as he readied up his shotgun again, pressing a button on the side.
The cyclotron reactor hummed to life, the cylinder-like part on the side of the gun starting to glow a bright orange hue when the fusion reaction began. Nonchalantly he picked up shells from his belt, sliding one shell after the other into the firing chamber with his thumb, like he has always done, cocking the lever on the side to finish loading it up. Something about that sound of finishing the reload of a shotgun made him feel much more secure.
Standing up straight, Denak twisted his body to the left to display shield extension of the shotgun, spanning all the way up from his hand to his elbow, the CreoDron logo labeled with huge letters on it.
"This also gives additional protection if needed", he pointed out, smiling slightly to Kador underneath his helmet. He may have been unable to convey his facial expressions, but his slightly enthusiastic tone of voice made him apparent that he was not concerned at all, he really liked demonstrating his equipment and talking about their technicalities to people.

Denak was seated upon a crate at the back of the crowd, sitting on it cross-legged and observing everyone individually through the slits of his visor. Beneath it his light green HUD displayed all kinds of information from the names of the people in the crowd to information pages about the Blood Raiders and the Sani Sabik cult, all the while a transcript of Kador's speech was displayed to him. He seemed kind of phased out to the outside observer, remaining perfectly still and looking at nothing as his eyes were browsing and reading through the information displayed on his HUD.
'Don't get separated. I'll have to talk about that later', he thought when the subject was mentioned, glancing up at Kador as he kept speaking. Denak spoke from the back of the crowd to add into the tips: "If you are in danger of being captured, off yourself. It's better to lose your clone and equipment rather than get caught by the Raiders."
Denak then fell quiet again, checking through his equipment again and his weapons leaning against the nearby wall while keeping an eye out for the transcript displayed. He had switched to his more common Scout gk.0 suit, sporting a blue and gray color scheme with additional equipment hung over his belt. Making a routine check on all his equipment and weapons, checking the firing chambers, arming and disarming the remote explosive charges, double-checking the fluid router on his back and assuring everything was in prime condition.
Fixing his attention back to Kador and the other Templar standing in the back, he patiently waited for him to finish answering all the questions and the crowd to scatter, quietly typing up a message to be sent into Kador's and Steady's NeoComs.

Hearing the Gallente sounding woman notify the group of their upcoming deployment, Denak decided to hold off his intention of approaching the two Templars in private, he needed to do the final preparations. As the others skittered about to prepare as well, Denak gave the group a dismissive nod, gathering all his equipment for his current suit and loading it into the dropship.
Seeing his NeoCom notify him of a new message, Denak briefly set his hands away from loading his equipment to rest against his Cortex interface, displaying the message on his HUD. The reply made him smile slightly within his suit, typing up a quick reply after he finished loading the rest of his equipment, afterwards heading off into a more secluded area of the hangar:
Quote:RE: RE: Briefing FROM: Denak Kalamari TO: True Adamance, steadyhand amarr
It is regarding the advise of not going off by yourself.
Kador knows this already, but I am a scout. I rely on speed and stealth to penetrate enemy lines and cause disruption. My effectiveness is going to be hindered if I am forced to move in a group, which would contradict Kador's advice. I have over a year of experience as a clone soldier perfecting my art, and decades more as a mercenary and hitman for the Intaki Syndicate, I can handle myself, even when isolated from my team.
The reason why I am approaching you about this is because you two have the experience of fighting the Raiders before. Kador also knows what I can do in combat, and I leave it ultimately up to you two to say if I should stick with the group or not.

-Denak Exploring the docking station a minute or two, Denak found an area not far from the dropship sitting idle, surrounded by cargo crates of various sizes and shapes, standing in the middle of it all. His finger trailed along the crates, his sensors scanning each one's contents until he discovered the correct one, labeled with his three slit symbol. Opening the crate, it contained only a small bag of his personal belongings, a special request he made along with his order.
Inside the bag was a small knife, a cup and a thermos bottle containing a warm, greenish liquid. Methodically, he began stripping off the gloves and helmet of his suit, revealing the pale and featureless face of a combat clone. Flexing his fingers upon being exposed, Denak muttered a few words in Intaki, pouring the ceramic cup full of the green liquid, dadayya tea. From that began his hour long ritual, remaining perfectly still on the floor surrounded by crates, letting the liquid he drank course through his body. If anyone were to discover him during his ritual, he wouldn't respond at all.
Five minutes before deployment, Denak instantly snapped from his trance-like trace, gazing down at the cup which was still half full of the steaming liquid. To finish his ritual, he took the knife which was sitting beside him, cutting a single vertical slice along the side of his hand, breaking the flawless skin and pouring blood into the cup. Exactly one minute before takeoff, Denak cleaned up his fresh wound, bundled his items back into the crate, dressed up and climbed into the dropship. Anyone inquiring of his whereabouts were met with dead silence or a dismissive: "I was away doing things."

Denak could notice the worry Kador had when he moved for a discussion with himself and Steady. As soon as they were by the three of them, Denak spoke up:
"I had already discussed this with Steady through mails, you should have copies of it in your own inbox, but I do think I need to run this through with you as well. You've probably guessed the kind of tactics I am going to field from my choice of dropsuit, which contradict your own advise of staying with the group. Needless to say, in order for my dropsuit and my tactics to be effective, I need to be away from the group."
Denak paused briefly to press a few buttons on his Cortex interface, soon both Kador and Steady received detailed information of all his dropsuits, to give them a frame of reference. Standing in front of the two wearing Amarrian dropsuits made Denak look even smaller.
"I have been a clone soldier for over a year perfecting my art, and many more decades working for the Intaki Syndicate. You have seen what I can do in battle Kador, it should be all the proof you need to show I can handle myself, even when isolated from the group.
I know what the Blood Raiders can and will do, I have studied their habits and taken your advise to the heart. I will not let them capture me, I will kill myself before that."
Denak's voice had a heavier tone as he emphasized his tone, unusual from his commonly calm demeanor. He sounded very determined, almost aggressive, arguing for his position to the best of his ability. Denak didn't often show this side of himself.
For the first time, Denak showed a sign of affection by reaching over and placing a hand on Kador's shoulder. Wearing a helmet, he still looked cold and detached as always, but behind the visor, he had worry for Kador, just as much, or even more than he did for Denak.
"I understand your concern, it is a valid one. If all else fails, I trust you with having my back."
As Denak spoke, he placed a small device into Kador's palm, encapsulating it in his fist. It was a spare detonator for his remote explosive charges, designed to trigger any explosive Denak had, regardless of it being deployed or not. Using that device guaranteed there would be nothing left of Denak to be used by the Blood Raiders.
He definitely hoped that it wouldn't have to come to that, and despite being a clone, it was a heave burden to carry, one Denak only trusted Kador to have. Before long Denak stepped away, refixing his posture and resuming his calm tone of voice.
"You have the experience of fighting the Blood Raiders, so I ultimately leave the decision to you whether or not I will be operating solo, Steady already has his approval. Whichever choice it will be, I trust you make the correct one, I can adapt regardless."

Hearing Kador eventually, if reluctantly give his approval had much more reliefed. The decision most likely grounded Kador's world more than refusal would have ever done to Denak. Just as he was secretive of his own past, he would not inquire about Kador's.
He knew that in the end, Kador trusted Steady, a fellow Templar of the same blood more than he ever would an Intaki, even less so one not converted into the Amarrian faith. The mere act of believing in Ida, despite having accompanied Kador through countless missions and listened to him about his Faith, was most likely a very grave sin.
It mattered not though, for if it ever came down to disintegrating Denak as a last resort, he trusted Kador to do it when no one else is able to.
Shaking off Kador's hold of his shoulder, Denak bowed down in front of him almost to the point of kneeling, keeping his arms tucked against his sides to show his own respect for the Templar. He may have not regarded Kador as a brother in return, no one would ever get that close to him, but Kador was definitely a friend, despite not expressing it often.
The lights on Denak's visor flickered as he browsed through the Scriptures on his HUD.
"We are brothers,' Zakara answered, just before breathing his last. 'And in God we shall remain brothers for all of time.", he spoke a passage from the Scriptures in his bowing position, before standing up straight.
He may have misunderstood the passage completely and committed a sin for using it in the wrong contex, it didn't matter. What was even worse was probably the fact that Denak, a heathen, a member of another school of thought, uttered those words as if its religious context held any real meaning for him. The Scriptures themselves may have been meaningless for Denak, but the philosophical context its passages conveyed did matter to him.
That train of thought was soon broken when Heathen approached the trio, despite having made sure they had their privacy. Having him barge in like that with no concern to the intimate nature of the situation was very rude for Denak. Not like Heathen could see the annoyance beneath his helmet anyway.
Upon being given the knife, Denak instantly gripped the handle firmly, tracing his fingers along the weathered blade. It had definitely seen plenty of combat. Through practice, he hunched down a little to assume a combat stance, making a few swishes and stabs into the air to feel how it handled, before going halfway through the act of actually throwing the knife before having second thoughts. Tokens of fortune were rarely treated as regular objects.
Politely Denak stood up normally again, placing the knife back onto Heathen's hand.
"The Blood Raiders will decide my fate, not luck", he explained, he was never the one for wearing tokens of any kind for shallow promises of good fortune. Ultimately, what the Blood Raiders will do have the only real impact to how well his operation was going to succeed.
"I appreciate the gesture though. I have my own knife if it ever comes down to it", he added, pointing to the sheath attached to his lower back, revealing the black handle of his combat knife, engraved with Intaki symbols.
When the call for the dropship leaving in an hour was made, Denak turned to face Kador and Steady again, giving both of them a respectful bow, speaking his parting words:
"Prataya yavati, jaateryam. May your God protect you", afterwards heading off to do the final preparations before boarding the dropship.

"Just place it somewhere away from the action for a fallback point", was Denak's instruction on uplink placement as Heathen dashed out of the supply depot room, his sensory systems picking up the following gunfire coming from the hallway, staying within the room for now. Denak redeployed the corridor explosive charge around the corner on the predicted path of the enemies Heathen notified about, watching his TACNET intently as two red dots began approaching the room, the larger group still trailing farther behind.
Denak quietly muttered seconds, dialing the activation code for just that one explosive to save the rest, inhaling sharply as he pressed the detonation button on his holographic interface.
The following explosion caught the two Raiders completely off-guard, the sudden blast wave echoing throughout the narrow hallways and vibrating throughout Denak's bodies, the flash of light blinding him for a moment. The two red dots were now gone from the map, nothing but fine dust remaining of their corpses, with a sizable crater now in the middle of the hallway.
'This was way too easy, the bigger force must have still been approaching.'
Another scan around the facility, three separate groups, all equally big, were approaching the supply depot room from each of the three different access points.
"P'vadah."
Denak's time was running short, trying to figure out a way to fend off all the approaching blobs, selecting the two explosive charges on both doorways. If he could time the detonation right, he could get a big part of the approaching forces, and if necessary he could retreat with his cloak and detonate the final two standing at the base of the supply depot when the rest of the forces moved in.
The sight of Steady materializing on one of the uplinks made Denak much more relieved, although his external appearance still remained stiff and professional. Their chances of fending off the forces were improved from certain suicide to near-impossible now, at least until the rest of their team gathered as Steady ordered.
"There's three groups approaching from all three access points, you can hold down the southern corridor", Denak suggested, gesturing Steady to the doorway that split in two at the end, one way leading to the silo and the other outside. He didn't stick around waiting confirmation from Steady as he was already preparing his defenses on the northern corridor. Finally, the results from his latest scan expired, leaving Denak only relying on his passive scan for the final trip the separate forces made towards the supply depot room, the first few were starting to appear on his TACNET radar.
"Wha-"
Without any warning whatsoever, a man in a torn and dirty robe cleared the corner Denak was still preparing behind of, screaming and holding a live grenade on his hand. Denak had completely failed to scan these, as their lack of shields systems emitted no electronic signatures, fooling his passive and active scanning. Denak managed to just barely raise the shield of his shotgun in time to knock back the screaming slave before grenade detonated, the bright flash and explosion knocking him down the small ramp into the supply depot room. Darkness consumed his mind as he was briefly knocked unconscious.
...
Denak blinked, his HUD showing multiple warnings about his weapons and dropsuit. The side of the shotgun was scorched pitch black and the shield had cracked in half, the remaining bit having melted through the armor lodged into the exposed arm beneath. His firing arm was all but useless right now until the nanites kicked in, grunting and biting into his lower lip as he attempted to ignore the pain and stand back up. That wasn't even the worst of his worries, another slave, this time carrying an antiquated shock whip and creating a signature for his scanning systems to pick up, was approaching, giving Denak at least a little time to prepare.
20%
Some of the armor repairing nanohives still survived the explosion, the microscopic repair nanites working in unison with his in-built armor repairer to fix the damage to his armor. 20% armor repaired and slowly increasing.
40%
A second slave, wearing similar kind of garbs as the first one, cleared the corner and charged straight at Denak, who had just barely managed to stand up again, part of the shotgun shield still wedged into his arm. Biting his teeth and squeezing the trigger to end the slave's life.
35%
The shock whip managed to hit Denak's body right after the slave carrying collapsed on the floor with a massive hole through his chest. The recoil dampening mechanics of his shotgun were damaged from the explosion, violently twisting his arm backwards, snapping his radius and ulna in half. Added with the millions of volts of electricity coursing through his body, Denak collapsed back on the floor face first, screaming in pain.
50%
Denak rolled onto his back, using his left arm still mostly unharmed and able to pull out the submachinegun from his belt, his right arm and shotgun were all but useless now. Shakily he aimed it at the hallway ahead, trying to focus at the hostile signatures still approaching the room.
0%
A third slave cleared the corner, equally cleared as the previous two and carrying a knife in his hand. Denak's aim was ****-poor by now, the stream of bullets aimed at the slave only managing to scrape the skin and clothing, successfully dashing over to him and wedging the knife deep into his side. Another scream of pain came from Denak, barely managing to point his SMG at the slave and squeeze the trigger, leaving him headless and collapsed on top of Denak.
WARNING DROPSUIT INTEGRITY BREACHED POWER FAILURE IMMINENT
With the last of his power, Denak activated his voice for the whole team, his HUD bright red with warnings and his mouth filling up with blood. He grunted three more words into the comm:
"Kador...
End me."
