I will never complain about the Dust NPE again. Holy **** was that confusing. And then the framerate broke down because of a patch that was made months ago and broke performance or something, from what I've puzzled together.
When I spawned, I either spawned at a starting location that's being camped, where leaving leads to instant death, or in some area in bumfuck nowhere where I didn't see any enemies at all. Then I tried auto team deploy and started at a team target marker with no other players in sight. And the GUI, holy hell the GUI. It's full of colors and absolutely overloaded with pointless information. If *everything* has its own color, color coding stops working.
That game has a tutorial and is still less self-explanatory than Dust.
And I'm not even mentioning the other aspects that Dust does better. Yes, Dust has its weaknesses, but at least it has coherent design direction, decent UI that can actually be parsed by the player and doesn't bite off much more than it can chew.
However, I did see some stuff that would really enrichen Dust. Like the "center HUD" option, which allows you to see the important HUD elements (Which are even worse than Dust by default) without even moving your eyes. And some of the class gimmicks would merit looking at - We are already getting cloak, at least. But I'd love to have jetpacks. From what I understood, their heavy class has an "overshield" ability that can actually be customized to either lower damage to get a sustained duration independant of enemy firepower or to absorb damage but lose energy directly in response to attacks. That's the kind of customization that would be nice for Dust, though not necessarily in this specific way. |

To be fair, I do like the bangbus. A vehicle with room for 12 people, with two of those being gunners. The driver can honk a horn and drive to the next target. Then he presses a button and it deploys as a mobile spawn point. It's important to hide them somewhere, because they are basically the only way to get spawn points in enemy territory and thus make for good targets. I wish LAVs mCRUs would work like that.
Going from one objective to the next in that game looks like a road trip movie with tanks and a cloud of aircraft. Well, a road trip slideshow, rather, with the 10 steady FPS that I get during action with my CPU that is supposedly bottlenecking despite being at only 60% load. If those incompetent guys can port their game to PS4 (Probably at 30FPS, because who the hell needs good gameplay, anyway?), then a PS4 version of Dust must be 1024 FPS at least. |
