I must admit, feeling a little burnt out by dust. Been a HUGE FF fan for a while. Who else is a fan? Who else is playing? How much will it suck you away from Dust? I might login for a few hours to total to inlude once a day for the 6k sp bonus and a couple of matches for the bonus SP pool but other than that...i'm out till I CRUSH FFXIII-3. |

What is sad is I will get the X remake but I won't even touch X-2. I remember trying to play it and hating every bit of it. It was like a Final Fantasy staring a bunch of Avril Lavignes or something. Wasn't my thing.
I agree that Tales games are pretty good but they aren't better than FF....sorry. I do, however, really enjoy playing Tales of Xilia right now and plan on getting the sequel this year. I'm also going to get the Tales of Symphonia remake b/c I loved the first one. Probably the best in the series. I never finished Tales of Abyss but I believe I will at some point. |

X as pretty much were FF peaked, XII storyline was decent but gameplay was just boring, XIII had just about one of the worst story/script, I've ever experienced in a RPG from a large developer/publisher. The story was just crap and nonsensical, 3/4 of the time you had no idea what you were fighting for, and by the end I hated every single character to some extent except Fang, Lightning at whom I was just indifferent and Sazh, although useless and somewhat annoying, wasn't afflicted with the b*tch, r*tard, and prone to squeaking permanent status effects.

If they ever make III, V, VI, and IX remakes I don't know what I'll do with myself.
So I take it you won't be checking out the game?
BTW, FFXIII-2 was so much better than XIII that it is absurd. In addition, no, This is the third installment and if you played the demo you can see that added an ARPG element and more granularity to equipment and classes (i guess that is what it is). So far I'm so psyched it isn't even funny.
I have to agree, I would love to see the a remake of the first 9 FF's. Personally, I'm a FF fanboy per se and would love to see 3, 5, 7, and 8 remade in any order. |

This game is addicting as hell. The time constraint limits grinding BUT the fact that you are expected to play through at a minimum of two times then it's understandable.
Nearly unlimited replayability for sure. Decent plot. Graphics are cool. The platforming thing they added is actually nice. Quests can be puzzling and require thinking. Cameos are great. People I fight are people I thought were annoying in the original ones. And wearing Cloud Strifes outfit as I beat the crap out of people is awesome. |

Anyways, FF XIII was the first Final Fantasy game I ever beat (actually it's the only one I beat) and I love it. Claire (Lightning) is one of my favorite video game characters ever. What I love most about her is that she's actually kind of a dork, but by the end of XIII she's grown more confident and is simply BA.
Can't wait to play XIII- 2 and then Lightning returns. \(^-^)/
Oh man! Yes, XIII-2 was great too. Very grindy if you want to plat it but other than that it is very enjoyable. You don't have to do everything to get the endings if you don't want. I did b/c i'm just that way with RPG's. Some people I know just beat it and got on youtube for the other goodies. I think it's only 10 bucks right now on PSN.
Lightning Returns is almost a completely different game so far. It's great. |

the camera: the camera has one job, show everything that needs to be shown. the entire demo I was wrestling with the camera. the FoV was too narrow (especially in cut scenes) and i got motion sick because of a game for the first time ever. often monsters were just off screen. and the one sort of ladder climb puzzle thing was really difficult because of the camera.
control scheme: the buttons need desperately to be rebound, switch outfit on (R2, L2) light attack on X, the monster info button on the D-Pad so I never accidental it again. to someone who has played the previous games the control scheme probably makes perfect sense right off the bat but to someone new to jrpg's (me) it was extremely confusing. who spams circle anyway?
the battle system: it seems like the only reason I couldn't run past all the enemies is that the door wouldn't open until they were dead. I had to search rooms endlessly looking for the last little **** I left alive because he was hiding slightly off camera. once i was in combat (and had a loose handle on the wonky keybinding) it was simplistic. in my opinion it lacked even pokemon's depth. the heaviest weapon did the most damage and took the most stamina, lighter weapons did less damage and required less stamina, no weapon was noticeably more effective against different enemy types and there didn't seem to be any real strategy besides "spam light attack and screw blocking" up until the boss fight(don't worry that gets it's own category).

honestly I didn't like it as much as I had hoped to, I really wanted to fall in love with the game but the only falling that happened is when it fell flat on it's face.

TL;DR not me.
I'm going to be dead honest. The demo was absolute crap. It also turns out to be the beginning of the game when you get the full version except, obviously, some gear is different as well as abilities, etc. That makes it much more challenging. Now, after you beat that part of the game (again the very start) it becomes AWESOME b/c you can explore and aren't confined to that kind of space except for "final dungeon" type moments.
To respond to your lows:
the music:
It's a JRPG based on a futuristic setting. The music is electronic and techno-ish. It is what it is. I have a VERY vast taste in music. If you don't then you can actually turn it off and play your own. So this is VERY fixable. I will say that the music is very remeniscent of classical FF with the electronic aspects incorporated. It brings both nostalgia and excitement for me. I CAN see how it isn't for everyone though.
the camera: That dungeon has been the only problem child for the camera since I started the game. I have not had the issues in another part of the game. Again, I think they forced a demo out of the beginning somehow and failed to refine it. But then again, it is only about 30 minutes of the whole 30 hour plus game IF you only do one play through.
control scheme: You can change 75% of your complaints in the full version. In the demo you can change some of it too. It is NOT intuitive at all but it is hard to believe that a little practice is really that big of a deal. It's like me complaining that the "x" button isn't the fire button in Dust or something. You can change most controls. This is, probably, the only complaint I find hard to believe is valid. Now if you wanted to state the Action Buttons and Controls are complex and difficult to get the hang of and leave it at that then I would agree. But you can change and customize it to your liking. And the game offers far more complexity than light strike, heavy strike, magic attack, etc.
the boss fight: Not only was it not a boss fight but they provisioned you with tons of cool stuff you don't have when you start playing the full version. The full version is much more difficult without DLC assistance. In addition, there is a mechanic that records the information of enemies as a whole when certain objects are found in the world. They will help you identify weaknesses and such far quicker. As you play you also develop mechanical and observation abilities to determine the best way to beat them just by playing. I mean, if you shoot fire and it deals 100 pts damage and then do an ice and it shows up gold and deals 1k, do you really need to check the libra card? I submit that you don't.
I think the demo was complete crap and poorly represented the game in almost every aspect except for the battle. I urge people to consider that the demo shouldn't be the end all be all. On top of that I can afford buying a crappy game and then selling it for ten bucks less on Craigslist if it is bad. I know some people are on more of a budget than I am. |
