I swear this is the Devs way of testing. Rifles come out, have an event. They think they've fixed Nova Knives, have an event to make sure.
They think Heavies have a chance in being OP, make an event for it.

Ok so listened to it and what he actually said is
Kill an enemy as a Heavy or Sentinel with an HMG or Forge gun and get an aurum Heavy or Sentinel (depending on what you used) and aurum HMG or Forge (also depending on what you used). In addition, each kill with the HMG or Forge will result in bonus SP.
If you are killing the Heavy or Sentinel, you will also get bonus SP but not as much and also some ISK.
Also this event will be this month, so not tied with 1.8.

So another event that's not worth it? The small SP boost you get from killing a few heavies is hardly worth it. I would like to see actual events which change the way how I play the game instead of getting minor bonuses for what I do anyways.
Heck, there wasn't a real event since Caldari Prime.

LET THE PUNY SUITS COME AND MY HMG SHALL DEVOUR THEM LIKE ALL WHO CAME BEFORE THEM. Seriously though It's not a terrible idea and it would allow me to make up for all the scouts I mulched in the shinobi event

Clearly you misunderstand the point of these last few events.
It's pretty clear that they're data-mining.
I love my fat, so imma keep it for the event :)
Can always use more suits 
Happily printing ISK with permahardeners and MLT blasters.
Just let me get a couple mil more before nerf, CCP!

Maybe the event will encourage some players to change the way they play the game by playing as a heavy with a heavy weapon.

Events should never be used for data mining, heavies get killed everyday get your data from that.
The scout event was silly, nova knives were used everyday and scouts were mowed down by rifles 100s of times a day.
Instead use events as a way to break the stagnation or encourage new players. SP acceleration is great but doing so based on WP killed any chance for new players, encouraged logi WP whores, led to stomp after stomp because of turnover rates.
What other MMOs use events only to gather data?

I like this event personally....my six kin will devour all opponents....her name is charlene....she's a durty girl....
But by making these events it makes people target what they normally wouldn't......which may lead to buffs or nerfs that were indicated as necessary during said event but after the event make certain things op or up
