1.8 is looming and with the number of indirect nerfs the weapon is taking, it has become clear that the weapon is outdated. Apart from needing a larger ammunition supply to mitigate the Nanohive nerf, the fact of the matter is you cannot rely solely on DPS anymore to deny or breach with the Mass Driver. The weapon needs some type of "effect" that discourages staying in an area.
-Reimplement the smoke effect -Add more camera shake when hit by the weapon -Add a slight push effect that will affect actions (hacking, positioning, etc.)
These are just a few examples that I'm talking about. This would make the Mass Driver a true support weapon instead of it being just a weak AOE weapon. |

I would like the smoke effect back, and the old trajectory. I do wonder how effective the smoke will be now with aim assist though.
I'd hold off on the 2nd two points until we see how the rifles are going to get nerfed. |

The only thing needed for the MD are more ammo (3x8 for standard) and different ammo types, which would be put in equipment slots. Needed would be:
Plasma (better against shields than armor) [Gallente tech support] Flux (similar to the nades with less radius) [Gallente tech support] Shapecharge (Anti Vehicle) does tremendous vehicle damage (like a remote), but minimal splash and only kinetic damage against infantry (charge doesn't detonate) if hit directly
This would make the MD a jack of all trades, but only on logi suits, since the ammo packs would be very pg cpu intensive and profit from the logi bonus. Also to change ammo, you would have to reload your weapon, so you are vulnerable during that time. Each ammo variant would need an extra equipment slot. The ammo packs would increase the total amount of ammo carried by one clip. Since that's not as much as you would get out of a compact hive, it would be not as tempting for an assault or commando to run the extra ammo. Since he looses the capability to restock his other guns.
Let's be honest, the MD has always been the signature weapon of many Logis, this should give the logis some incentive to stick with the class if they are given the nerf bat in 1.8...
