Well, I have finally managed how to deploy uplinks (with apologies to various teams of mine whom would have thought that I was just standing against a wall releiving myself for hours on end) and this part works well.
However, is there any form of feedback about the status of the uplink(s) that I have seeded? Can I see somehow how many people they have left to transport or even if they are still functioning?

Thanks for these tips. As it happens I have been following these guidelines which, at the end of the day, are common sense.
I try to get to a new area of the map to give my team an option and in one day when I set up a flanking uplink I received about half a dozen spawn points right away.
As for the uplink placement game it gives me the chance not to worry about combat. I instead run around and am trying to learn the maps rather than fight the enemy directly because (a) I am carp at combat (I still keep reloading at the enemy or crouching in front of a tank) and (b) I am more useful being 'tactical'. And if it confuses any reds by my running around screaming then that'll be point (c).
Because I am not worried about losing my merc in his paper thin suit because I have a job to do I find this rather exhilarating and refreshing.
This is a great way to get into the game for us arthritic oldies who can't get to look, aim, fire and hit something. My last kill was someone who's mother clearly called him in for tea and I still took about four magazine loads to hit and bring him down -- from ten paces. So when the reds move round, dance, do somersaults and, blast them, fire back I tend not to do so well.
Thanks for the posts, gentlefolk. As ever much appreciated.

Thanks, this is basically what I do regarding the Uplinks.
I find a good concave corner (not all concave corners will do) back into it and then throw it. Then the newly arrived squaddie has options on where to move and isn't facing the wrong way.
One of my pet hates is spawing into a dead end, which is safe in itself, but the end is camped.
I need to get skills to get the nanohives dropped next.
I've noticed that one can't get new Uplinks unless one dies or refits at a Supply Depot. Are there any special nanohives which give replacement Uplinks?
Sometime I want to move one of mine for much he same reason as yours. I put one down then and look on the map and find that five minues later that others have placed half a dozen next to mine so it's time to move the link elsewhere. And it would be handy if one can get new uplinks from somewhere. Any suggestion?

or at the edge of a ledge so someone coming out, trying to get one's bearings falls about fifty feet and then ends up being more bewildered than ever.
In one battle I spawed at the top of some lattice work about 300 feet off the ground. I have no idea how that uplink got there but it was utterly useless to see anything from there because of its position.
Perhaps there's a competition going for the most absurd uplink position that I don't know of.

Thanks for this; I am about to wake up the printer and read this over a bottle of Merlot.

So...

However, if you are dropping more because someone killed one. Then they are not replaced.
Drop 1. Drop 2. Get suit again. Someone destroyed Drop 1. Drop 3 to replace Drop 1 and Drop 2 remains where it is.
Thanks for the post. This is useful to know.
As I say I try to move mine if I find that my uplink is surrounded by others which have subsequently appeared.
Sometimes I will use the Uplink to make a relay to where I want to go. This evening I knew that I had to get to the other side of the map as there were no uplinks between me and the target area whatsover. So it was a case of picking up uplink, running to a half suitable place, get stomped, respawn and then continue to where I want to get a good position.
The only gripe that I have is that when I am planning my route that the map doesn't always seem to be orientated with North at the top. So I look at the map, decide that I want to go slighly east of south-east, say, and then after dashing to a spot and checking the map under cover I find that the map is 'out' by about forty-five degrees which is a little annoying.
Thanks again for all of the feedback, this is all very interesting and this is best form of logistics for me to play.

Question: What class are you?
Class? I don't suppose I consider myself as being in a class at all. I'm certainly not a fighter and the idea of being a medic isn't going to appeal but generally looking at the map and working out what I think is the best is what I can do the least worst.
So perhaps some form of logician is what I am. I've tried sniping and would like to get back into that again.
As for WP farming; that seems to be a strange accusation to make. Yes, I am getting more WPs than before when I am doing pure combat (where normal equals zero WPs) but these would only translate into SPs which then I can use to make a better uplink seeder.
The way things are I am going to concentrate on being a logician and then when I max out on my skills there I may then look again at sniping. But getting in there and roughing it up with the young lads isn't my sort of game.

Thanks for the tip. And even if I went back to sniping then both of those would be useful for hiding and running away.
Endurance would be useful as it would help me get get across those wide open bits of land.
And, er, guess what I found the other day -- the Sprint function. I didn't realise that if one mashed the left hand joystick (though my wife suggest that the size wouldn't) that one sprinted. That was a nice surprise. Now I can die in more remote locations...
