They announced damage nerfs, damag mod nerfs, and possible proficiency changes back in early January:
CCP Remnant wrote:Yeah, TTK is definitely something we're looking at improving. The reason we've not hot-fixed a blanket 10% nerf is simply because of the knock -on effects it has (e.g. reducing the damage output of an ammo guzzler like the ACR means it gets a bigger nerf than simply reduced DPS; though some might argue that's not a bad thing).
For 1.8 you should see re-adjustment of damage mods, a reduction to weapon damage and possibly alteration of the weapon proficiency skills to only buff damage against shield or armor (in keeping with that weapon's profile) instead of a blanket 3% per level to both shields and armor.
You've missed WEEKS of possible time to complain about damage nerfs.
Dren and Templar equipment stats, wrong since release.

These changes alone are why i'm so impatient for 1.8 to drop.

The actual story being: "Many weapons being nerfed, Damage Mods all being nerfed, and maybe your proficiency too". Not sure why the rail rifle would be controversial at this point. |

Problem with that post is that it doesn't specify which weapons are getting it, as there are some weapons that don't actually need it and some that definitely need it. Also that "possibly" should definitely not happen it would really break, even more, the balance between shields and armor.
Armor and Shields are not the same!

People don't want to lose their crutches totally balanced weapons that don't have any obvious advantages over the rest.

Whether the "possibly" part is happening is the only newsworthy bit at this point. I think you could pretty much assume that if they're trying to make TTK longer by reducing weapon damage, the RR was getting nerfed.

Pretty much. TTK has been complained about since 1.4 and the AA buffs, since all the full-auto weapons became easy-mode to kill with. If you thought the two new very powerful rifles would be exempt, you'd be pretty foolish. |

That said, the "nerfs" could be much smaller for some weapons that others, and so further details really need to be laid out.

Ive never cared for the nerf / buff cycle on weapons...and I'm finally getting fed up with it.
Instead of massive weapon tweaks to address TTK issues how about re-working some of the perks for classes, dropsuit stats, and defensive mods instead? Nobody will beef about their weapons being hit and most folks will appreciate the EHP.

No people aren't complaining about the information there, what they are complaing about is the rifles getting an additional nerf above that.

So your solution is..instead of changing one simple thing, change 3 things to do the same thing? Now, my problem is they are messing with 2 of the 3 things you mention plus weapon damage at the same time. CCP definitely believes in punctuated equilibrium over gradualism. (A little biology reference there for ya'll )

People are freaking out because they can focus on a single aspect. Allow me to explain:
All of you are getting kicked in the butt with a comically sized boot! You are getting kicked in the butt with a comically sized boot!
The single seems so much worse to people as it is specific to them rather than happening as a group. I am sure everyone knew the damages were all going to get hit. The reason why people are freaking out is because of a slight slip by Logibro. Rather than stating "All rifle weapons are getting looked at in the upcoming patch" he stated "the rail rifle is getting its damage nerfed. *several posts later* All rifle weapons are getting looked at in the upcoming patch."
In other words, "rail rifle nerf CONFIRMED!" and "rifle weaponry nerfs possible" will be on the forums for quite a while. |
