The answer to that should dictate what the other roles were defined for, so what is an assault not good at?

So if the general consensus is that the assault should only be good at something and not great, and thus intended specializations were made into their roles: why are there so many threads asking to kill and/or restrict the abilities of other classes in comparison to assaults?

Well thats simple, with a logistics suit you can build yourself a lightning bruiser instead of a jack of all trades due to the higher number of slots and PG and CPU available while not really sacrificing anything which is the problem Now balancing this out is a problem since a logistics player will need to keep up with the team if they are healing and resupplying and they need some survivability and need to be able to defend themselves when things get hot so if you change them to much you cripple the suit If only we had a test server we could try small tweaks here and there without throwing the entire game into chaos but CCP wont set one up for some bassackwards reason
I just meant in general. I've seen so many threads against the logis, mostly the slayer ones, then the heavies, mostly the ones running light weapons, and then the scouts and their dampening abilities. Its just seems like every fix isn't creating better balance, it's reigning every role to be back to assault standards.

I'm not certain its that the community has no understanding in that they are ignorant. I have a feeling that its more do to with CCP making glaring changes without definitive responses to many questions on vagueness. I used to think they had a roadmap. The longer I'm a part of this game, I'm not so sure.
Every change doesn't seem to be intended as a part of a plan as much as 'well that didnt work, let's just try this'.
