Since our carrier was a nuclear propulsion vessel, we were not allowed to go into the New York harbor for fear that if we were targeted and hit, a mess of nuclear proportions in addition to what was happening already would be inevitable. Never did I say "we saw the towers get hit". I DID however say we were in the middle of the ocean doing training OPS before our real deployment when we got our orders. I'll say it again...IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. Still with me? Good. By the time we got there, the damage had already been done and to ensure nothing got near the city, we ran normal flight OPS until we were relieved. Also, F-15's are Air Force property.
