All of this military talk. Lol. I'm ex-Navy as well, but I don't announce it. Doing it the way you are is childish and we are both the same age. I see what you are doing...you're "reaching" for respect. Respect, especially for military, is earned and appreciated by all. Those who sacrifice for their country do so out of self-less loyalty to a cause greater than themselves. What you are doing is forcing people to respect the IDEA that, because you were military, we should respect and fear you. I do not. Sorry.

Additionally, it strikes me curious as to why you stopped at 15 years of service. Everyone knows that you have to serve at LEAST 20 years to qualify for retirement. Unless you were wounded in action, why would you NOT stay the 5 extra years and sit pretty for life? That in itself strikes me as odd and diminishes the credibility of your "I was in the Navy" story. I was in during 9/11. I saw the smoke myself from aboard my carrier. And you?

USS George Washington CVN-73.

We were out doing CERT OPS in preparation for our upcoming 6 month deployment. It flashed on the news, our captain got the call to secure airspace since our fleet was in the Atlantic anyway, got over the 1MC and told us we had a change of plans given the situation.

Since our carrier was a nuclear propulsion vessel, we were not allowed to go into the New York harbor for fear that if we were targeted and hit, a mess of nuclear proportions in addition to what was happening already would be inevitable. Instead, we circled the harbor and ran flight OPS in order to secure the airspace in and around the city.

Never did I say "we saw the towers get hit". I DID however say we were in the middle of the ocean doing training OPS before our real deployment when we got our orders. I'll say it again...IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. Still with me? Good. By the time we got there, the damage had already been done and to ensure nothing got near the city, we ran normal flight OPS until we were relieved. Last I checked, aircraft carriers are not like the USS Enterprise in Star Trek. We don't have a hyperdrive to kick us into "warp speed". If so, I want one so I can get out of my fiance's dinner date with friends when the big game is on.

Also, F-15's are Air Force property. The only birds similar to that would be the F-14 and the F-18A/Ethat we had onboard.

CERT OPS stands for Certification Operations, meaning we were not qualified at the time to go to the Persain Gulf, silly. Every fleet has to do CERT OPS BEFORE any major deployment.
