This has been brought up many times, but of course it is still a relevant topic worth bringing up every now and then. We all know that CCP has higher priorities at the moment, but people here in the community need to remind or at least nudge at CCP to look into the idea of adding PvE to the game later on down the road.
One of things that it's interesting about the Eve Online missions is that anyone can jump into the mission sites without your permission if they are able to scan you down and pinpoint your ship's location. Once your mission site has been found, there is no stopping the pirates from being pirates by targeting and destroying the key NPC rats you're looking for before you do, steal the loot and then warp away leaving you without any of the critical loot you need to complete the mission.
For example: An agent gives you a mission to hunt down and kill a key lieutenants of the Dread Guristas and retrieve the security key he carries with him. You arrive at the mission and sudden you are having to brawl through wave after wave of NPC rats of various sizes. 10 minutes later, the target finally arrives. But just as you're about to finish off the last remaining NPC rat you're currently busy with, a group of players warp in on your site after managing to scan down your location. You quickly engage you primary target in the hopes of getting the loot first, but one of the other players manages to land a killing a blow and claims ownership of the wreck. You can't loot it or else you risk being flagged as a criminal and get shot at by the players. Instead you let them go as it's not worth risking your 200million ISK ship over it. You go back to your agent but the mission agent is disappointed that you never got the security key so you lose out on the payday and suffer a standing loss unless you get back that key that was taken from you.
You then head to the market and find that the security key is on sale by the very players who stole it from you but you need to pay about 2 million ISK for it and the mission payout is about 2.5 million.
This is the interesting part of Eve Online's mission system. It's open world. And this kind of griefing is perfectly legal according to CCP. If missions ever get introduced to Dust, I expect to see open-world missions where player like me can scan down a mission site, infiltrate it, and sabotage the efforts of the mission runners or ransom their loot for profit.
