I've been thinking about this for a while and wanted to make a video about it. The problem with videos though is that they're bad at representing raw data or information. I might make an excel sheet of this data eventually.
I decided to post this here to keep it safe while I make a shorter, very simple version of this for a video. That way I can also reference this post in my video if anyone needs more information.
With that said, here is my guide for what you should be spending your skill points on as a logistics as you make your way to certain points in your logistics career. Currently I have over 30 million sp and am able to run a prototype logistics suit just fine. In this guide, I will show you what skills you will NEED if you want to run logistics proficiently at different levels.
Finally, keep in mind that all of these skills require isk for the skillbooks. You will probably need to play a few battles just to gain enough isk to buy all of the skillbooks in the beginning. However, for new players you will need to figure out which Logistics suit to choose, and these battles should be the time to do that. I do not include the isk cost of the skillbooks as it's not something I find that important. ___________________________________________________________
Rudimentary Skills - 136,810 sp
These are the skills you will need just to be able to skill into everything else. Most of these do not unlock anything except for more skills, or the most basic logistics equipment. With the first 500k sp that you get with a new character, these should be priority before anything else.
Dropsuit Upgrades 2 - 25k (Needed for Dropsuit Core Upgrades) Armor Upgrades 1 - 12.5k (Unlocks armor module skills) Shield Upgrades 1 - 12.5k (Unlocks shield module skills) Dropsuit Core Upgrades 2 - 50k (Unlocks equipment and passive skills) Nanocircuitry 1 - 18.5k (Unlocks standard Nanohives and Injectors) Repair Tool Operation 1 - 18.5k (Unlocks standard Repair Tools) __________________________________________________________
BASIC LOGI - 500,000 to 1,324,540 total sp
This is your first checkpoint you want to go for. At 1.5 million sp you should be able to do any basic logistics task. Aside from the dropsuit skills, you will be spending your first million sp on equipment, weapons, modules, and some important passive skills needed to put it all together. The plan is as follows:
Dropsuit Command - 329,580 sp
This isn't mandatory in the beginning, but is my next recommendation for where to spend the remainder of your starting skills points. This guide is about skills specifically and so I'm not going to go over which suit to pick. 1.8 is also around the corner and makes things even more difficult. Expect a guide in the future after 1.8 about choosing your dropsuit. For this guide I'll be using Minmatar Logistics. It's the most versatile suit and has the most fitting slots at std and adv
Dropsuit Command 1 - 6k (Unlocks medium frame skills) Minmatar Medium Frame 3 - 273.5k (Unlocks advanced Minmatar medium frame, and is needed for the Minmatar Logistics skill) Minmatar Logistics 1 - 50k (Unlocks standard Minmatar Logistics suit)
Dropsuit Upgrades - 603,190 sp
Next is the skills you need to use basic modules and the more important equipment. The reason you want most of these skills is to be able to use the basic variants instead of militia. Militia gear is great for making inexpensive suits, but the extra cpu/pg costs they bring make it hard to fit your suits properly with better equipment. (The pluses next to certain skills represent you just needing to upgrade them further as they should have previously been unlocked)
Armor Plating 1 - 18.5k (Unlocks basic Armor Plates) Armor Repair 1 - 18.5k (Unlocks basic Armor Repairers) Shield Extension 1 - 18.5k (Unlocks basic Shield Extenders) Shield Recharging 1 - 18.5k (Unlocks basic Shield Energizers) +Nanocircuitry 3 - 186.5k (Unlocks advanced Nanohives and Injectors, 5% cpu reduction per level) +Repair Tool Operation 3 - 186.5k (Unlocks advanced Repair Tools) Uplink Deployment 2 - 74.5k (Unlocks standard and stable Uplinks) Active Scanner Operation 1 - 18.5k (Unlocks standard and flux Active Scanners) Dropsuit Electronics 1 - 31k (5% cpu increase) Dropsuit Engineering 1 - 31k (5% pg increase)
Dropsuit Weaponry - 254,960 sp
No matter how much support you do, you're going to need a weapon to defend yourself and support your allies. The best way to choose is by trying out each of the four racial rifles and picking one of those. They're effective, easy to use, and are mostly balanced. For this example I will use the Combat Rifle. I also recommend skilling into grenades for the ability to use flux grenades instead of locus.
Weaponry 3 - 68.5k (Needed for Light Weapon Operation skill) Light Weapon Operation 1 - 12.5k Combat Rifle Operation 3 - 137k (Unlocks advanced combat rifles, and reduces kick by quite a bit) Explosives 1 - 12.5k Grenadier 1 - 25k

ADVANCED LOGI - 1,500,000 to 4,893,790 total sp | 3,569,250 more sp than basic
Up until now you've probably been using militia and standard suits, but I'd say once you get here, you should get your advanced suit right away. You might not use it very often at the beginning, but as you level up your skills you'll be able to develop a few decent fittings. Most of the points spent getting here will just be upgrades to the skills you already have, but it costs more sp to upgrade the higher your skill. It's a much better choice to upgrade three skills to 3, than it is one skill to 5. Here's what you should have by the time you reach 5 million:
Dropsuit Command - 497,440 more sp than basic
All you're doing here is upgrading your logistics dropsuit to level 3 to be able to use the advanced version. This does cost a bit, so be prepared to save your sp for about a week or two. The advanced dropsuit has much more cpu/pg, more fitting slots, and the passive bonuses from the skill will help make your standard suit more effective.
+Minmatar Logistics 3 - 497.5k (Unlocks advanced minmatar logistics suit, and gives the suit some better passive bonuses)
Dropsuit Upgrades - 2,306,960 more sp than basic
These skills are for setting up a main foundation for your suit. You want to stick with advanced equipment for now, as well as be able to use the much more effective "triage" versions that are specifically designed with armor repair in mind. The extra passive bonuses will help immensely with fitting space especially if you want to start using an advanced weapon...and armor plates should be your main source of hp for now until you can afford to unlock complex extenders.
+Armor Plating 3 - 186.5k (Unlocks advanced Armor Plates) +Shield Recharging 3 - 186.5k (Unlocks advanced Shield Energizers) +Dropsuit Core Upgrades 4 - 261k (Needed for Hacking skill, and gives small bonus to cpu/pg) +Nanocircuitry 4 - 261k (Unlocks triage Nanohives, and another 5% reduction to cpu) +Repair Tool Operation 4 - 261k (Unlocks triage Repair Tools) +Active Scanner Operation 3 - 186.5k (Unlocks quantum Active Scanner) +Dropsuit Electronics 3 - 311k (10% cpu increase) +Dropsuit Eningeering 3 - 311k (10% pg increase) Hacking 3 - 342k (15% hacking speed increase)
Dropsuit Weaponry - 764,850 more sp than basic
By now you should probably have a good idea of the weapons you like to use, and most likely you'll have a favorite. You can spend more points here if you'd like, but the main goal of this guide is to use the least amount of points to be the most effective logistics player you can be. Unlike dropsuit upgrades, you want to focus your skill points here into one area. That way you can use a basic weapon to save cpu/pg on your suit, while still being able to use it as effectively as someone with an advanced or prototype one.
+Combat Rifle Operation 5 - 485k (Needed for CR proficiency skill, and reduces kick even further) Combat Rifle Ammo Capacity 2 - 74.5k (10% extra ammo so that you don't have to rely on nanohives as much) Combat Rifle Sharpshooter 3 - 205k (15% dispersion reduction)

PROTOTYPE LOGI - 5,000,000 to 12,797,410 total sp | 7,903,620 more sp than advanced
Alright, once you've hit 5 million sp you should probably start running advanced suits primarily. This is the hardest section to go through because you will eventually need to save up almost 2 million sp for level 5 logistics. I probably wouldn't do it immediately, but right around 10 million sp is when I would start saving. Level 4 is a bit more tolerable, but the fact that you can't spend your skill points on anyhing else can be somewhat bothersome.
The main reason is not to be able to use prototype suits, but instead to have the max passive bonuses that the skill gives. My advice is that you shouldn't even pull out a prototype suit into battle until you have these skills at least:
Dropsuit Command - 1,940,160 more sp than advanced
This is the last and final push you have to make for your dropsuit. Having your suit skill at 5 will even make your standard dropsuit feel like it's able to do anything. You should work through a lot of the skills in dropsuit upgrades before you do this, but once you're ready, prepare for a long wait. You get about 700k sp from passive sp gains alone in one month, and active sp is capped at 180k per week..so you can earn about 1.4 million sp per month. This means that it can take you as little as 2 weeks for level 4, and a month for level 5. If you use a 30 day active booster, you can effectively get both 4 and 5 within the month.
+Minmatar Logistics 5 - 1,940k (Unlocks prototype Minmatar Logistcs suit and adds even more bonuses)
Dropsuit Upgrades - 4,999,620 more sp than advanced
These are the final skills for modules and equipment that you will need before you should start using your prototype suit. You can put more skills into certain areas if you want, but these are the BARE MINIMUMS that I would go with. Things like Profile Dampening and Hacking you can skip, but they make all the difference when you combine them with a prototype suit.
+Armor Repair 5 - 914k (Unlocks complex Armor Repairers...don't use enhanced) +Shield Extension 5 - 914k (Unlocks complex Shield Extenders...again, dont use enhanced) +Nanocircuitry 5 - 466.5k (Unlocks prototype Nanohives and Injectors, another 5% bonus to cpu) +Repair Tool Operation 5 - 466.5k (Unlocks prototype repair tools) +Dropsuit Electronics 4 - 435.5k (Another 5% bonus to cpu) +Dropsuit Engineering 4 - 435.5k (Another 5% bonus to pg) Profile Dampening 5 - 933k (lowers your profile to avoid basic scanners, and unlocks complex Profile Dampeners, which can lower your profile to avoid advanced scanners) +Hacking 4 - 435.5k (Another 5% bonus to hacking speed)
Dropsuit Weaponry - 963,840 more sp than advanced
Now if you already looked at the skills mentioned below you might be asking why I'm suggesting skilling into these things as a logistics player. Well, part of the logistics class is being diverse. Have only support role logi fits doesn't work all the time, and being able to support your team with some stopping power helps immesnsely. For only 1 million sp and one module slot, you can increase the damage output of your weapon by 20%. I feel that a good support player should be able to defend themselves, without having to rely on other players to kill for them. If damage isn't your thing, skilling into another weapon is a good idea too.
Weapon Proficiency 3 - 342k (9% extra damage to your weapon) Handheld Weapon Upgrades 5 - 622k (Unlocks complex Damage Mods) OR -insert weapon here- Operation 5 - 622k (Unlocks a good secondary light weapon)

Good guide, I might have avoided some mistakes if I read that a year ago...
I have to ask tough, where do you get that 5% bonus to CPU from nanocircuitry? I certainly didn't see that anywhere. |

My video shows evidence of the fitting cost being less than the actual cost of the item.

Well well well! that is some very useful info, especially considering I was only level 3 (15% reduction indeed, I checked) And I pretty much always run at least 1 nano... Hello level 5 :D |

Great guide for newer players to follow. Also the fact you have profile damping as a skill to spec into along the way instead of only a after thought is a big plus 1

Suggestion: For those of use who don't run those pesky little speed demon Minmatar logi suits, you might consider skilling up biotic upgrades in the 5-12 mil window. Changed my life.

I'm glad you did this, skill progression explanation has never been a strong point for me. Analysis, problems solving, tactical is - so thank you for putting this together. With the release of 1.8 and subsequent updates there will be many changes happening to the logi class it will be important for the old and new logis to stay up to date in order to aiding our brethren on the battlefield.

I'm doing my part, I won't skill up a single suit until fanfest where they will hopefully release the info about the possible future changes of the medium suits. Inbetween...the majority of all guides will probably be a waste of time and SP. |

This is definitely more of a new player guide than anything...and even so I would still only use it as a guideline.
Not everyone is good at planning their character from the beginning and so I wanted to make this for players that don't know where to start and/or want to know what the best skills are for getting into the logistics class.
But yeah I agree with you about waiting until the changes to the medium suits...the thing is if you're like me and you have upwards of 40+ million sp, you're at the point where your next 2.5 million sp will probably go into another proto suit instead of core skills...so you're not worried so much about picking the wrong medium suit right now.
I'm skilling mainly into heavy suits with the refund, so I don't have to worry about wasted sp there. Either way, whatever they do to change the medium frames it will most likely not affect my decision on minmatar logi (the only logi I will ever skill to proto, eventually the rest to advanced)
