I've been talking about splitting public contracts for a while now and using the meta level of gear as tiers. Why do we even have arbitrary Meta level designations?
Let's be real though, the battle academy has never and will never solve anything. The new players are just going to spend SP on what works in the battle academy then get wrecked when the water wings are taken off and they are thrown into the deep end.
The biggest problem with this game is just the sad fact that it took to long. The game doesn't have many of it's racial suits and barely any game modes. If this wasn't from a company that runs a well known game like Eve it would have already been declared a failure. Now, the ps4 has come out and their is no way this game is going to stand toe to toe with planetside 2, or at least by the time it can compete, ps4/ps5 will be running planetside 3.
The only thing this game had going for it was the promise of integration of two different games, which got canned, its been dead in the water ever since.
The reason the game has such low new player retention is its a grindy game like many hardcore korean mmos that's masquerading as a first person shooter with a meta game that changes every month or two creating an endless grind to get to the point where players are allowed to have fun.
Problem is the mainstay is HTFU!!! Which to most people is met with "Why? This game is a mediocre shooter at best, it's battlefield halo with low player counts and months of grind on a couple of rotating maps." The original halo had more game features and didn't lock you out of content for months at a time only to change said content and say HTFU!
Honestly it was a collaboration that this game failed. The Eve players mutinied over any chance of the two games being integral. The hardcore dust players cannibalized the new player base at every turn. The developers have pretty much put the game to the back burner like they have all their non-Eve games in the past. And Sony didn't help pushing a product out of Beta before it was ready to meet their time tables.
This game could pretty much be summed up by calling it "Firefly" the video game. |

Oh please, tell me more! You...missed my point. When I joined, I didn't compare my experience to the blueberries that run around going "Durr!" Granted...it's funny as hell sometimes(I'm such a horrible person), I do try to help. xD The reason I don't "equate" my experience when I joined is because my KDR was a 0.75 constant after I got out of academy. After three months, it jumped to 1.20, and after 7 months(being roughly now), it's jumping to 1.50(currently 1.34). I CAN'T compare my experience to them BECAUSE of that circumstance. Nonetheless, I do feel their pain because I get stomped just as hard as anyone else when there's a full squad of AE, FA, OH, or NS on the opposite team, and possibly even more than that. SO...person who thinks he can belittle me, SHOW ME YOUR SKILLS ON FORUM STOMPING! D:< Edit: I gave you like...you seem to be lacking in them. c;
I understand what you are saying, but here's the thing. Do you think your experience 7 months ago is the same state of the game now? I know I sure as hell didn't see as many protos 7 months ago as I do now. It isn't about KDR, it's about being able to actually do anything to impact a battle. If you truly believe there is nothing wrong with the new player experience I challenge you and anyone else who agrees to roll a new character and ONLY use said character for a month. See how far your knowledge of the game gets you and see whether or not you can confidently say that new players aren't boned right now.

I-Shayz-I wrote:This game takes a lot of time to actually get into. It's not like most games where you can just start playing and have fun right away.
There's also a lot that isn't explained sure, but then again it's hard to introduce a new player to the huge amount of things to do in this game.
One of these days I will eventually make a decent video for new players that should help give them a general idea about what all you can do in this game.
The problem is, with the game not fully complete yet, there's a ton of content missing. So much of the game is unbalanced, and every time a major update comes out EVERYTHING CHANGES.
Maybe that's the key to making a good tutorial for this game...figuring out what been here forever and best explaining the mechanics behind that.
The meta changes every update, wouldn't be much point as you can pretty much sum up what new players need to learn.
"Whatever you like now might be broken tomorrow, don't get too attached." New players best bet is either saying screw the game and find your own fun leading to more QQ about useless blueberries or leave dust until it is either in a more stable state or closes down. |

We start our 1st real game, A domination that eventually I end up on the winning side, problem is out of my 5 man squad, I was the only one who finished the match. 3 of them left after I told them this(stomp) would last longer than a few days, which was one of their questions "How long will we be this weak?, is it days or weeks kinda thing?" ....... Months and months... 2 of them playing together said and i quote "well **** this" and left, the 3rd killed 2 people then get mashed by a rail rifle from miles away, and left battle, I messaged him, nothing.
Last guy seemed to be real interested, asking a lot of questions about the different roles, by time he had his 5th run in with the 4 enemy tanks running around, he said "Hey man thanks for the help, this is garbage. I just wanted to try it, peace"
In conclusion, it's not fun for new players. A game HAS to be fun, NO.1 criteria for all games. IT MUST BE FUN. The survival of this game in the long run depends on capturing new players.
I think CCP has pretty much decided on just letting them fend for themselves, for some reason they think every game they make can be treated like Eve and they are going to ride this sinking ship to the edge of the Earth. Considering how many games they keep dropping and flopping you would think by now they would figure out you can't just copy paste the Eve experience to other Genres.
Eve is fun in the same way Voyage Century is fun or Starport Galactic Empires (those games are free world pvp with sailing ships and space ships respectively and the vets gank/beat up the new guys) Even Runescape would use a wild system or WoW's PVP servers for ganking, but all those games I mentioned including Eve had shelters for new players (like Eve's high sec.) I haven't seen another online genre where ganking can float the main appeal like they keep trying to float with Dust. |
