Having lost my marbles and become completely addicted to DUST - I now demand an official movie! Not only would it be an intense bit of action, it would also help promote the game to a new audience which would be ace..
I humbly offer my services to direct - here's an example of my work, shot in an FPSish kind of way.. (this is a horror film btw so don't click it if you get scared of stuff)

But in all seriousness - maybe get an immense Hong Kong or Korean action-meister to make it ultra-slick and super space age violent-y...
And for my part I want to see Sniper's getting slapped down and hear them begging for mercy before getting shot in the face...

Something that ills most movies these days.
Yep - I would go for unknowns or lesser known actors. Let the action do the talking!

a merc in a minmatar scout suit sitting pretty on a high ledge nodding his head, the camera shifts to his inside view of his neocom and we hear that hes blairing AC/DC at full blast inside his helmet.
the camera pulls back out keeping the music going (even though you wouldnt be able to hear it outside the helmet) and he pulls out some nova knives, charging them up and testing their sharpness in the classic knife sharpening style.
he then runs parkour style off the ledge and lands on the ground putting his back to some cover, and just as he gets into position he extends a knife wielding hand just outside the corner at head level and some poor amaar merc runs face first into nova knife :P
That's the opening right there...

Cool, he's got the CV for it so this guy is a good choice. I guess this is EVE based rather than DUST 514... I'd like to see DUST as a stand alone movie - all action with just a hint of the EVE story for mystery...

Maken Tosch wrote:[quote=al nize mk2][quote=Reav Hannari] And that's just off the top of my head. All of these are the result of player actions that have created the greatest sci-fi narrative in the MMO industry. A story that is as vast as the scriptures of the Holy Bible, Nag Hammadi Library, Torah, and Quran combined. About as in-depth as the Tom Clancy books. Filled with controversies and political intrigue that can make the CIA and KGB jealous. And economically interesting enough to become the subject of college economics classes in the real world.
If for the next 11 years Dust 514 is going down the same path as Eve Online did in the past 11 years, and I'm confident it will, then that means that making a "movie" based on Dust will only limit the scope of what Dust is truly about.
A TV series will do a much better job at expressing everything about New Eden. Unless of course you're into spending 3-hours at a time watching 6-9 films of Dust.
Okay I hear you. Great point and well made. This is something other than all out action. DUST has already built an incredible narrative and in that respect it doesn't need a movie at all.
But I would like something to give the players a quick thrill and everyone else an easy in-point for the game. Think of it like an advert for the MMOFPS experience of DUST... just a hint of the story in order to show you the action - and then you go online, create a merc - and join the real story...

But do mercs even shower? Do they not just shoot themselves and regenerate squeaky clean??

Doom. Dust matches have less story behind them than even the original doom. Which is fine in a game, not so much in a film.
I hear you.. but I'm in the minority that actually liked that movie! The more films of games the better I reckon. But I totally take the point..
